That is the most absurd thing I have ever read!

What sort of environment is it if you can't talk to the people around you?

Definitely isn't a place to pick up girls...

I think it's reasonable. I constantly argue with my mum, because she likes to talk to random strangers and I feel that some of the strangers she tries to talk to may be people like me, who feel extremely uncomfortable talking to people they don't know, and she may be inadvertently causing them stress. I couldn't care less whether or not I'm able to talk to strangers at the mall.
Your mum just walks up to random strangers and initiates entire conversations? Of course this isn't reasonable - what if you go up to someone because you need to find your way or something?

That's just bloody insane. No talking to strangers? Do they require all customers to wear black Nikes and gray track suits, too? C'mon California; you are better than this.

Hopefully, in 50 or so years, natural selection will have rid our species of such idiocy.

I can't even begin to describe how ABSOLUTELY FUCKING RETARDED this is.

This gets both of these, because one of them on it's own just will not work.

Okay. /b/ needs to get a hold of this. Imagine dozens of them walking around the store with a huge variety of signs with questions, emotacons, cat pictures and all the rest of the insanity they would bring.
And technically since they are not speaking they would not be violating its insane ass laws.
Heheh, that'd be rather funny.
OT: What the deuce? That's so...stupid.

Well, I guess I'd be arrested. I go to that exact mall every once in a while, and occasionally talk to a stranger that comments on my magnificent hair.

But I think this is just stupid. They're not allowing people to just be social? That's absurd.

Apparently the Westfield Galleria in California will have you arrested if you start speaking to strangers without first filling out an application form from the mall for third party access.

Seriously, wtf?

Its more about preaching/advertising atleast thats what the mall guy seemed to suggest.
Basicly 3 ppl tried to use the mall as a hub for converting people, and "talking" this way to every stranger you see, well they have rules against ppl getting bugged by strangers, i doubt that they didn't even think about conversations between customers.

It's a rule to cut down on wackos bothering others in the mall.

Now wording needs to be, only the person being talked to can blow the whistle. The priest will win since the girls didn't have a problem. It's when grumpy grand ma working at the cookie store calls security. Well Security should have had more common sense, cause there is no way they can protect THAT list of charges for a private rule. Best they could do is ask the priest to leave, and if he did not, call police. But of course they reacted like the retards who tackle gandmas for having toe nail clippers in a airport.

It is private property, but unless they have signs up stating the rule, then the manager can't use the defense "People just have to know."

They are gonna be screwed. They can worm out of a few of the charges....but one will stick and screwum up.

Many messed up laws have a point to them, sadly the point was 200 years old. Like in Austin Texas it was illegal to spit on the sidewalk. Mostly due to that was one of the few places paved and when you have a few thousand rednecks spitting chew on it, it gets pretty gross. Now in the day of power washers and the like it is outdated. But you piss a cop off enough he might bust you for it. Oh and motorcycle have "saddle bags" which if you have wire cutters in them your charged as a "cattle rustler" yet the current politicians are to busy to worry bout the old laws.

Well, that's why my name is posted up on the post office wall. Seriously though, apparently caller ID is also illegal here to.

What?

Just because talking to strangers might make them uncomfortable and stressed does not justify a law. Laws are for... more important things then that.

My Mum does that too! Its really annoyng when you have to stop and wait. Im glad I have my own car now.

OT: I kida thought this would be something I could support, like if it was a reaction to Paedophiles, Rapists, Theives and the like. But it seems thats not the case. Its a bit over the top to arrest a priest for talking about religion, especially if the person who didnt like it was only overhearing it. I thought America was all big on free speech and stuff. This kinda seems to be a lack of religious tolerance, or maybe im missing the point
