Appearance over stats?

Back when I played WoW, I almost got in a fight with my guild for refusing to wear a robe that was slightly better than my current one, but didn't match the rest of my outfit. Eventually I agreed to wear it... but only for boss fights :p

So yeah, when it comes to games, I'm a fashion before function guy. Which is a little weird, in RL I'm very much function before fashion.

As long as i don't die, i stay with the cool looking/sounding stuff.

Stats are important too, though. If it is RADICALLY better i just NEED to use the crap.

For example i use the "Deus-Ex" Revolver in TF2 even if it does -15% damage, in arena-mode. Why {the advantage doesn't come up in Arena}? Because is just SOUNDS awesome. Also i have met many people prefaring the PAN instead the assorted swords on demoman for the same reason.

So yeah: balance between style and stats i guess.

Visuals over stats, unless I can just skin the ugly, yet statistically better armor.

I play my characters partially for my own visual enjoyment when playing the game. If I can't bear the sight of my character while watching that screen for a couple good hours, then whatever that equipment is.. it'll never reach the light of day again.

In RPG's I always tweak till it gets right, for me an RPG means playing how I would. So I'll tweak everything till that's accurate even if my effectiveness or stats suffer for it.

I pretty much used to play my RPGs like that when I discovered the genre but now I take note that an item means more than just its base appearance.

I let the extra Characters in Drakensang that are not part of the standard party and are only useful for special skills such as alchemy run around in underwear, which is especially hilarious if you take a pretty much naked elf through the busy market place while the rest is dressed. Give it a leash and you'd have public disgrace. I wonder why Fox didn't report on this yet.

What really sucks is that the freaking most powerful weapon in the game by a long run is an ogre's club, which is pretty much a HUGE spiked red baseball bat, which looks really silly. You can buy it fairly early in the game, so you always find your dwarf carrying this ridiculous thing with him... I considered giving him something else, but the stats are just WAY out of line compared to what you could get at htis stage in the game.

What I hate is when there is one item for everybody that looks the same, like helmets for the whole group. You have a party, not a squad...

You cannot see your own character in first person view and nothing in a computer game ever registers aesthetics, so no.
Choosing anything else over stats is stupid, unless it's some MMOG you play with people who like to criticise you over something like that.

Well, in Runescape, I have several casual outfits, but when I get into combat, I don't care how I look, as long as I can get out a hundred pound claymore and break shit effectively.

Yeah, no.
This.I managed to find a hood that didn't look ridiculous, I stuck with it through the rest of the game.

I like my Characters not to look goofy but If it gives me a big stat boost I'll sacrifice My video game character's non goofy looks for the huge boost
I was always looking for that checkbox with "Display Helm" next to it. But I never found it so I was destined to roam the world with stupid nightcap on my head.

Really depends on what stat bonues the items give. Big enough stat bonus and I will go dressed as a clown.

Though I mostly go with visual, Because you have to have a pimpin outfit when you slay monsters.

I'll generally go for high stats unless the armors are particularly jarring.

Though I would like to say that, since the Juggernaut look appeals to me, I usually get both.

Visual over stat unless its a fight that stats are required to win. As my New Vegas character is level 50, that isn't much so normally I walk around with a Duster from Lonesome Road, a cowboy hat of some sort and a big revolver or pistol. Makes you feel bad ass taking on a pile of Fiends.

if it's a huge boost i'll go for the stat but if it's a small boost but will make me look stupid it wouldn't be worth it

If I can get away with it, or if I can enchant my own gear, I'll place a moderate amount of importance on aesthetic appeal. I did that with my DragonFable character by using Dragonlord's wings and Sapphire hood because they complement my character's class outfit, those items have good stats, but not the best I can get as my character's back and head pieces.

In Demon's Souls, I chose my armor to get as close as possible to half my max equip weight so I currently have chain helm, Gloom chestpiece, and leather gloves and boots and can still evade quickly.

Of course, if something is overpowered enough, I'll use it regardless of it's appearance.

It's hard to see why other games don't go the same route as LOTRO - you get several clothing sets for appearances only that you can freely switch between, and what you're actually using for stats doesn't show up on your avatar unless you actually choose that. City of Heroes did something similar, but costumes in that game had no attached stats anyway.
