I know this is a weird title, but hear me out.

I have trouble eating; I very very rarely feel anything like hunger pangs, and often forget to eat. I'm being treated for the physical symptoms of another illness, and this should be balancing my blood sugar and making me hungry on a more regular basis.

Problem is, I still don't feel hunger. The medication I've been given makes it so that I go from feeling fine to near-fainting because I haven't eaten. My appetite hasn't increased in the slightest, and right now I'm feeling very nauseated because I tried to eat dinner (after not having eaten since about 1 pm), managed three bites, and gave up because it's just too hard to eat if I'm not hungry.

If anyone has any suggestions or any stories, I'd really love to hear them. This is beginning to make me really upset.

Have you been staying up later than normal? I haven't been feeling hungry during the day because I've totally messed up my sleep schedule. My body thinks it's breakfast at 7:00, lunch at 11:00, and dinner at 2:30. Eat when you're hungry.

Watch Food Network.

Eat something very high in sugar, then wait three hours.

Go grocery shopping.

Exercise, exercise, exercise, until you sweat out a couple pints of water. Drink water, not sports drinks.

In the most extreme cases, vomiting may work. Please don't try this.

The problem is that I don't feel hungry. I'm not staying up later than normal, I haven't changed anything there... I just don't ever get hungry.

Talk to your doctor about it, see if you can be prescribed a THC based drug (THC is found in marijuana). A friend of mine who went through Chemo was prescribed one after the medicines his doctor gave him screwed him up, he gained like 30 pounds after he started, and he weighed like 105 before...

Ether way talk to your doc...

Eat light foods, even if it's just a little. Salad is one of the easiest to get down for me.

If you do live in Colorado, medical marijuana is an option. I have similar problems with not eating. There are ways of coping with low appetite. One thing to do is to eat on a timed schedule. Set some sort of alarm that tells you when dinner is, so you don't rely on hunger pangs. For what to eat, if you're having trouble getting food down I would suggest something mild and salty. I find I almost always have room for miso soup, salted soybeans or roasted soybeans. Soy is nutritionally awesome and painfully simple in taste and preparation. Chick peas and other legumes are also good places to start.

I hadn't thought about that... the legumes, I mean. But I can eat hummus with no problems... Thanks for the tip!

This, in conjunction with Travel Channel's Man vs. Food. If one or both of these doesn't make you wanna have a snack, then you're some kind of robot or something.

Try really, really fresh foods.

Like, fresh bread, or really good salad or hand made gnocchi. The type of food isn't important, but freshness is.

See, fresh, unprocessed food should be better for you, more nutritious (good when you're only eating small amounts) and much more palatable.

Nothing out of bottles, cans or boxes. No heavy sauces. Try going to a vegetable market. Maybe make your own soup with fresh vegetables. Bean soup? Mmmm....

I'm making myself crave stuff now... whoops... I'll be back when I've made some cheese muffins from scratch and had them with real butter fresh from the oven....

Salads are likely to be low in calories and lacking in proteins. When you're trying to eat when you're not hungry, things like nutrition, caloric density and subjective taste are what's most important. From my own experiences, I can't even eat a good amount of gnocchi regularly. It's just too heavy, the combination of potato and pasta is a carb explosion.

I just don't see how freshness is relevant, there's nothing to suggest the OP isn't some raw food vegan who only eats what grows in her SoHo apartment.

I have a similar problem.

I consume pop'ems (donut holes), fruit smoothies, and sugary drinks.
Essentially, I find something which I know I'll enjoy eating and force a couple of bites. My appetite generally kicks in after that.

I should probably have said in my original post that I'm kind of anti-weed when it comes to fixing this problem. I'd prefer to find something a little more nutrition or scheduling based.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, I'm not against marijuana usage. I'm just not interested in doing it.

It's not about the food, but rather stimulating an appetite. There's many ways to do it (weed is the one being loudly proclaimed in most posts).

I'm simply suggesting my own method of whetting my appetite. And I do know what lack of appetite is like, as I have also been on medications that have played havoc with my appetite...

if the treatment that you have been given to make you feel hungry is not working then tell the GP (or whoever put you on this course)

could it be a side-effect from the medication that you are taking?

eat more food, eating more food increases your stomach size however its not the most wisest way to do it.

Eat some Krispy Kreame donuts. Those motherfuckers always make me hungry.

The medication I've been prescribed is Glucophage, which is normally given to diabetics to help even out their blood sugar (I'm not diabetic, but I have a form of insulin-resistance, so it's supposed to help).

I've had this problem for a long while now, but it's gotten to a point where treatment is mandatory if I want to keep myself in any semblance of good health.
