Apple Approves Blatant Mario Rip-Off for App Store

It's not ripping off Apple or being "indecent", so they don't care. Just more money for them.

That was pretty much my thoughts on this.

I just hope Nintendo can take some kind of successful action against Apple. Those pricks whine and cry when Amazon uses a generic term like "app store", but they're fine with allowing people to buy a game that could only be a more blatant ripoff of an established IP if it was called "THIS GAME IS A BLATANT RIPOFF OF NINTENDO'S SUPER MARIO BROTHERS!"

As expected, Monino has already been removed from the App Store, but how does something like this get through in the first place?

And here I am thinking this is Apples way of glove-slapping Nintendo. I still fully expect Apple to show up at E3 with a dedicated gaming console (the iPlay) dedicated handheld console (iPlayNgo) and the concept for a much more portable gaming platform to be released 2 - 6 months after the two mentioned previously (the iPlayNgoMini)

I'm somewhat of a developer and I don't think I could live with myself If I sold off something like this.

Sure I might make a Mario Rip-off for fun but there's no way I'd try to make any money off of it. Original content isn't THAT hard to do anyway, if this guy can rip-off most of Mario then adding a new enemy type or obstacle would be a piece of cake.

Wait I never thought to check whether he was actually charging for this app. This was still a much needed rant for people that do make money off rip-offs though.

If it's a free game then it's Nintendo's problem :3

I think someone wasn't quiet on the ball with that one. I understand how it might happen with the large volume of games they go through but that's a pretty bad miss there.

The sprites have enough resemblance to mario and the music is ripped straight from mario.

Alright people.

I am an independent game developer. We're trying to make out initial financial bones for larger projects with casual games.

This crap right here, is precisely why we're going to the Android market.

Apple is just too......Apple. Have a really hard time risking our financial future on this kind of stuff.
Seriously I'm sending out an email to everyone with the link to this article (assuming they haven't read it already).

It's not the only reason by any means, but still...this kind of apple insanity really makes us just want to avoid them altogether and go Droid.

We've personally known too many people who have been royally screwed by apple. Work on a nice lengthy high quality project, pattern it to the Apple app market, then boom, for no reason, rejected, then they have to rush and spend time and money trying to recover the project in some other way.

But Super Obvious Mario clone gets the thumbs up.

This post makes me laugh. Dude, I seriously doubt you are a developer. Never mind the fact that this game exists almost in identical form on the AM, there are several copies of IT as well. If you were a serious developer out to make a buck, you would know that android users don't spend anywhere near the amount of iOS users. iOS has a larger install base and higher revenue for devs. These are facts.
If you want to make wild claims in the name of some techno-ideology, great, just don't try to pass it off as anything other than an anecdote.
