So if this were true, would you consider buying a console from Apple? And how much would you pay for it? How much would it cost (considering Apple products tend to be quite expensive)
Not to sound obnoxious and pretentious, but iWouldn't just because it's Apple. iFind that they're just trying too hard to get everyone interested in them and to come off as trendy. iHate the naming style, deciding to put an "i" in front of what it is. iHate the business plan that seems to be out to rip people off as much as possible. iBasically hate Apple and anti-consumer it appears to be.
iWould first, like to say iTook every "I" in your post, made it lowercase and then iPut it in front of the following word.

Second, iAgree with you (both of you). iThink we should be scared of Apple.

I can't help but think of Muse's Thoughts Of A Dying Athiest:

"It scares the hell out of me, and the end is all I can see".

Honestly, some of the stuff mentioned there is even beyond some of the stuff I was already pretty aware of. Stuff like forcing people into using iTunes to go with their iPod instead of the iPod functioning as a proper MP3 player.

Given that Macs generally cost twice what PCs do, I wouldn't pay £500 for a console although I wouldn't pay £200 either.

And what would you play on it? Would it have a similar range of games to the stunning selection available for the Mac?
Nope, just a bunch of pointless apps...

i'd probably not buy it,i doubt mac could hold their own with exclusives, and i would not want mac to get power in the console war so i would not support them one bit if i had the choice to.
Hmm I wonder how many people felt the same way when MS made the Xbox?

If there are good games on it then I will get it, if its a reasonable price.
look at the computer market

pc's rape just about 90% of the market (last time i checked)

which are run by windows

which is microsoft

microsoft profit >>>>>>> apple profit

microsoft's ability to bully and get massive exclusives >> apple's ability to do that.

and at this day in age, most people are either apple fanboys, or they are complete opposite, so no, i dont think the apple console would sell well, especially considering how overpriced it would probably be, and how well the xbox/ps/pc/wii is infrastructured into the gaming world already.

it would be the i360, just as crappy as the original xbox just done in white and nerfed for todays modern dumbass!
Interesting, because you just sound like a MS fanboy so I can hardly see the difference.

Microsoft definitely is a bigger company than apple, but considering ten years ago apple was not even close to being competition, I think they are doing pretty well. They have a stranglehold on the handheld market right now, so I think they are better at specializing than MS is.

I don't really care Mac/MS or whatever. They're both just big corporations that only care about our $$. All your opinions on what the console would be are pure speculation so I can't really agree with you that it would suck. That said, it may still suck, but why get all bent out of shape over a rumour that is completely unconfirmed, and make up your mind about a stance on it when you don't have all the facts? That's how fanboy's are born.

I'm going to wait and see what the price is, what games are available for it, and see if a few years after its release if it is still going strong or not before I make a decision about it.

Otherwise I'm only limiting the amount of games and enjoyment I could be having.

Just a thought.

Also, in terms of the whole Mac's being catered to today's modern dumbass, I own a Mac and a PC, and I use my Mac more. Why? The software I need to do my Audio Work is better on Mac. Hardware is hardware really, and PC's are more customizable, but there are problems with PC's and problems with Mac's. I don't think one is better than the other. I will say I have less problems with my Mac and I can work much faster on one because of the ease of it's OS interface. But I still use my PC.

Anyone who buys something without doing research simply because "It looks pretty" deserves to lose their money really.
actually i couldn't care for microsoft, although i prefer pc over mac just about any day, HOWEVER, mac does have impressive software, especially for audio/video, however the price of quite a bit of it is astounding compared to stuff i can get on pc thats almost just as good for a fraction of the cost.

now for mac, they would probably have a pretty decent console, however that thing would be so locked up tight on exclusives and what you can do i dont know if i would enjoy it, apple has proven time and time again thats how they are with their products, so having the console would be the exact same take, and most of my rant i had was going towards the exclusives and developers, most of them are owned by microsoft/sony/nintendo or are pro-pc all the way, so for mac to keep up spec wise with the pc or if they did do the console, they'd have to do some major developing themselves in the game section, otherwise i couldn't see them standing strong with the other 3 already well established companies, because you know the apple console would get no love in asia, and doubtful in europe, as most europians i know and have seen are pro pc for the most part, so itd be tough for them off the bat trying to sell.

if they made a decent controller, the system wasn't outright expensie, and had decent titles, then in reality of course i would buy it.

It'll be an Apple which means:

* It'll be expensive
* Eye Candy
* Not as much software as everything else
* Years behind in technology
* Overly hyped
* Inferior hardware

And most importantly, people will buy it.

Should also mention it looks nothing like any of their other products. It more looks like the old PowerMac cubes, PowerMac G4s with the mirrored drive doors and the G4 iMacs. It seems to me like an outdated picture, or maybe Apple are just going down that track again?

If Apple does make a console, it'll likely mean the end of Sony consoles. This gen, Sony has been the odd man out and, given Apple's consumer appeal, an Apple console will be the final nail in the coffin for Sony. It'll be like another Wii: a killer of PS3/360 sales. MS will survive, I think. Their sales and performance seem to make it safe for them if Apple makes an entry into the console business.

Meh, one more platform who will try to hook exclusives... i think theres enough competittion between 360 and PS3 to benefit the costumers, more players on the field would just screw things up for us gamers i think.

Apple Making a game Console? HMMMMM

"Looks into the future"

Direct3d - Xbox720

OpenGL - Playstation 4, WiiWii, and iGame

You know, it just might be the thing we need to dethrone Direct3d and Microsoft with its monopoly!!!Also, Apple has good methods of digital distribution and DRM and...

But then again, i dont like apple's pricing schemes...

I sure hope they stay out of the console war!!!
If there were a particularly compelling reason to NOT use D3D, it would be more commonly used. There really are only two factors that keep open GL in the running: first, it is an open platform and thus can be modified or extended as a game requires (though, the rapid development and release schedule of DirectX removes this particular need from developers, a boon considering just how complex this layer of software is). Second, it is owned by a major player in the industry (Microsoft), meaning their direct competitors do not actually want to use it. Sony certainly could have leveraged Microsoft technology in the creation of the PS3, but doing so would be a major PR blow. Nintendo on the other hand was more concerned with making the system do what they needed on the cheap, and I suspect if they belived it could have been cheaper to use DirectX (and thus alter the precise hardware they could use) they would have.

As far as an apple platform goes, I'm not quite sold. It would have to meet a number of requirements for me to purchase it:

1) Proven consistent developer support. For an exmaple of what happens to a console without software, look no further than the Dreamcast (though there are many, many more choices)
2) Excellent online integration and functionality at a similar or lower price than XBL.
3) Relatively low price point - my current gaming hardware has already cost me more than $2,000 (Including iPhone, 360, PS3 and PC). If the price point creeps past the $300 mark, it had better have some very compelling exclusive titles.

If these three conditions are met, I'll accept apple as my new overlord. Price and software selection has always been what has stayed my hand with their products afterall.

I hope quite the opposite to be honest, I want them to join the console war so they can learn the hard way that they realy realy shouldn't have.

It will have a lot of things that can go wrong with it, I mean, I have gone through 3 ipods in just as many years, and a buddy of mine has had nothing but trouble with his mac so he went back to PC. Anyway, its like what most people have been saying, they will let about 2 or 3 developers on it and distribute it online. I predict that it'll sink like a lead balloon.

I have to admit that I'm not a big apple lover as well but the Mac we have at home has been working perfectly for 5/6 years now without any problems, so I haven't gotten any complaints (so far) when it comes to their quality. Though I've heard the stories about how the iPhone isn't as reliable as it should be.

Still I'd be interested to see how people/gamedev's/Sony/Nintendo/MS would react to this.

I hear your points.
I'm just curious, as I don't live in Europe, but how many of these same friends own iPhones?
I think Apple is a smart company really, otherwise they wouldn't be a multibillion dollar corporation. I don't think they would lock the console up solely with exclusive content, as that would be a bit counter productive. I understand why the do it with the iPad and other products, but those aren't gaming platforms. I would assume at the very least if they made a console they would do some market research and realize that not having major developers on their console would be a bad financial decision.

In any case this is all speculation on both our parts. I just have a hard time believing that if they were entering a very competitive market that already has established market leaders, that they would limit themselves by not offering things like third party developed software. They only get away with stuff like that in the handheld market because they have practically monopolized it.

Monopolized?

I do believe Nintendo still has a large part in the handheld gaming market. 138 million Nintendo DS's against 50 million iPhones(and not every iPhone owner plays games on it either) and 68 million PSP's.

It wasn't their intention to even become a major player in the handheld market (or at least, that's what THEY claim)yet they managed to do it. Doesn't mean they've got it monopolized though, not by a long shot.

There are alot of fanboys and hipsters out there that would buy this console, mark my words.

Sorry I meant handhelds as in the phone and mp3 player market, not the gaming market.
They haven't done anything in the gaming market yet in my opinion.

Of course fanboys and hipsters will buy it.
Just like fanboys and Halo nerds who buy the 360. Same shit, different pile.
