Apple making a gaming console

As former posters have said the cost will be extortionate and will use so much power to run that the lights in your living room will flicker. Knowing apple they will probably force you to pay a monthly subscription to play a single player game which you have to re-register every time you want to play it. Then god forbid you wanted to show someone else the game you would be prosecuted by Apples top lawyer henchmen of death.
So endeth the will of Apple.

I couldn't see them making a full fledged console but maybe something that works like the app store with fairly simple and open development for anyone to make.

OT: I don't think an Apple console will be successful despite the company having loyal followers.

I think part of the reason that the Ipod/Iphone app store platform is so popular is because most of their users are casual gamers that don't mind dropping $1-$5 on games that are simple and easy to access.

I do not see the same users going out and spending a ton of money for a console and it's respective full priced games.

I personally would not support the system.

Now to be serious. If an Apple console was in the making, we wouldn't know anything about it until 6 months before it would be released. Maybe.

Apple would also take the making of said console slow and rigorous, seeing how they could make it hack-proof. And if it does become hacked in some way, they'll buy it back.

I'd expect the name to be something generic, like the iPhone and iTunes. Say? iCon sounds like what it'd be.

The ToS/Rules of Play would be an unknown. Apple could just go 'You bought it. What happens on the system, if you play online, is your decision.'

Hardware wise, it would be top-notch and complicated, yet somehow weirdly simple.

Fancy adverts and stripped down versions of already existing products does not a profitable console make (although the Wii seems to have proved me categorically wrong on that point).

Not really, the Wii has one phenomenal innovation in the form of effective and intuitive motion controls. It's not exactly what we 'hardcore' gamers want but it is something new.

I wonder though what sort of "amazing" innovations Apple would apply to their console. Maybe it will fit into a manila envelope, have a controller that is also an iPod, and have an Apple Logo on it. That last one is all it really needs to make a profit I guess.

...ok, well now that i have finished laughing from your hilariously off the mark comment about the Wii's motion controls being effective and intuitive(somewhat retarded armflailing does not constitute effectiveness, and it is only inovative in the slightest.) Not to mention that the motion controls for the Wii were so broken that nintendo had to release the Wii motion plus...and in my opinion, that just showed utter lazyness when they had to release a stand alone addition for functionality that should have been included since day one.

OT: idc if apple joins the console wars...whatever they create will just be an overpriced piece of shit just like their computers, and being a PC gamer, I would actully enjoy watching apple flouder, even if it is only in the console market
