Hm, let me know how it works out... I'm all about the VR, but I remain sceptical because I don't want to get my hopes up. When this does show up I want to be amazed at how well it does it, not disapointed that it didn't live up to what I imagined it would be!

Uuuh, I'm not sure I want a vest that fondles my boobs! D=

So what happens if you get shot exactly...? I assume it won't be so bad, but I just want to know exactly how that's being dealt with.

So if I'm playing a fighting game where I get smashed into a building by either Goku (or other DBZ char) or Superman (or other strong Marvel/DC/Comic character) How would I feel?
It would vibrate and "contract particular muscles"

Yeah, pretty worrying isn't it? -_-

How does it know what to virbate and what to contract on the different games or do they have to code every single game you want to use it with?

I don't see the technological advance here.

Either this thing's vibration are more or less metaphrocical, like a mild controller rumbling indicating the recoil of a gun... or the thing's vibrations are realistic and people can now look forwards to having their shoulder's broken in their living-room by misshandling their imaginary guns.

Yes, everyone who plays dating sims are perverts. Not to mention porn! Only sex addicts watch porn!

OT: I doubt they'd make one big enough for me. =(
Considering we were talking about the suit's use in "dating sims", "one big enough for me" has two meanings in this context :p

Probably the coolest thing about this technology is thinking about how it would interact with both the Omni treadmill [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123766-Oculus-Rift-Headset-Simulates-Beheadings], to create the most immersive possible VR environment.
Yeah, that'd be amazing... Until I'm not actually a super-fit cyborg ninja badass, and end up in the emergency room after trying to double backflip-kick an enemy in the face.

Oh I'm sure the "recoil" of your imanginary weapon won't be that strong but enough to make you feel like you just sniped some poor fool from the other side of the map and hearing him curse you for those 2-3 seconds before his chatter turns off.
...
This happens in Black Ops 2.

Sound's cool I guess. As for the future being here? Give it another 50-100 years before the combination of these products is cheap enough to mass produce and buy before start screaming about the future. As it stands now they're all in R&D, and will set us back a hefty ~2 or 3 grand.

Once someone actually manages to get the Kinect to work for big-kid games let me know, because until that moment any immersion for me is destroyed by the use of a controller. If there are spiders on my face in game and I can hear, see, and feel them, I need to be able to physically destroy them or my dreams will be haunted forever.

No captcha, WHY WOULD I WANT TO TASTE SPIDERS!?

Well the STIM or rather electroshock is interesting the rest is a waste of money and time, while the idea is pretty old it's always nice to see it wasn't forgotten.

Still this is very crucial to try first and see what it actually does because no amount of videos can even give you a glimpse into how it will feel, also very important to note that it needs direct engine support to output anything half decent so until they got a good list of working games I wouldn't throw money at anything yet.

The article mentions sniper vs. plasma "impacts".

So it's probably like being poked.

Heaven help you if you get riddled with bullets and it tickles...

Omni tread + ARAIG suit + one of the room projection project = working holo deck with current technology. I would want the Rift but a room sized version would be better in my opinion, especially if we can figure out how to keep them from moving too much without the belt holding them in place.

If I had the money to invest in this I would open a business in which people could get the full immersion experience. Add on LAN and gaming center, possibly a few other things, and make bank.

In my years I have seen things like this come and go. I have a feeling this will go the same exact way the Aura Interactor went back in the day. Everything that is supposed to make games seem more real and immersive never seems to have that much of an effect. It actually surprises me that controller rumble (Dualshock and the like) has lasted as long as it has. I can only imagine it will (if it is ever produced) be another closet item, good for a yard sale. We have been down this road many times, been disappointed many times. Until a company can make something that can interface with your actual nervous system, think of the plugs on Neo in the Matrix, I honestly believe it just wont work. Our bodies are not quite as gullible as we would like to think and are not so easily fooled.

World... just stop making crap that's supposed to "Immerse" me in the game. I'm happy with a controller and that's it! No more. No less. There is nothing more practical than simply pressing a button! Every time I see one of these so called immersive devices ya know what I see? Another friggen power glove.

So world, stop making more power gloves, especially when you think I'm gonna pay $300 for one. I have a hard enough time trying to afford sixty bucks for a new game!

Well...

Perceptions among many people would be aligned with the above. Now, I was a 14 year old single male once, so I cannot exactly judge people for rampantly consuming porn or playing the types of games I played when I was 14, however the opinion that dating an imaginary person in a computer game is perverted is one that makes some sense on some levels (If you think of "Perverted" as "Taboo"). As for the whole "People will use it for sex!" thing, my response is "And?".

If you could rig up a VR machine so you could have aweosome pretend sex you would be a liar if you said you wouldn't. Seriously, everyone has been single, well over 90% of us can be assumed to have watched porn at some point (Especially within this demographic.)

That said, even among 20something year old gamers there are those who frown at pornography and the pron industry in general (Like myself.) and avoid watching anything as a result. But that is getting into a totally different topic.

If I had more money then sense I would totally get one of these. If there was a single FPS on the market that even partially interested me anyway.

To further clarify my point...
When you shoot a high powered rifle, and yes I am a bit of a gun nut so you will just have to forgive me, the stock does not simply vibrate on your shoulder. Not does the recoil make your muscles contract. What it does is compress the tissue, quickly and violently, some more then others. This vest will be incapable of simulating anything even close to what it feels like to fire a 7mm or a 300mag, among many other experiences that involve compression, or piercing. Our sensory system, for lack of a better word, is very complex, and to think you can fool it with a few rumbly pads and a light electric shock is just insulting really...

If an argument is made that peripherals like this are not designed to give an "authentic" experience then I must simply ask what is the point?

The initial design focuses on the pectorals and abdominal muscles, and can create everything from a tingling sensation as if something is crawling across the skin
Oh fuck no, this idea is terrifying. The scene in Metro : Last Light where you have to walk through the room of spiders is bad enough, with the scuttling noises and the cobwebs, but with millions of virtual spiders crawling across my body?

Hell no.

I sense this suit could be used in Horror rather effectively
Now imagine that scene with surround sound, an Oculus Rift and that suit. The part where they start to crawl on your gas-mask, you hear them scuttling around and feel the tingling sensation around your body and one jumps right on your face.
that image is pretty horrifying now to get some extra freak out why not do this only use a facehugger instead, and for extra malevolence, throw in a chestburster at the end if the suit does give feedback.

OT: That is pretty sweet but I am a typical gamer. i.e. I like my comfy sofa and lumber supporting pc chair.
