I am a HUGE fan of XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It was pretty much my game of the year for 2012, hands-down. Great gameplay, good graphics, a functional (if a little cliched) plot. Enemy Unknown seems to have it all.
But I've been looking around on Steam and GoG, and I was wondering if any of the older XCOM titles are worth checking out at all.
From what I've heard, they seem a little more freeform, with a larger focus on building bases and such, and they look a lot more difficult.
I'm certainly up for a challenge, but I don't want something that will ultimately end in frustration.
tl;dr- Are the old XCOM games worth a try for an Enemy Unknown fan, or am I better off spending my money elsewhere?
