Are there song covers you prefer to the originals?

As quite a few people have said before me...

Land of Confusion by Disturbed...
Live and let Die by Guns and Roses...

And one that I didn't see on page 1 (although could be on page 2) Is Cars by Fear Factory.... I much prefer their version to the original...

Although I'll probably be burned at the stake for saying this... I liked Puscifer's cover of Bohemian Rhapsody better than Queen's...

Shut up, Maynard Keenan has an amazing voice!

Honestly, the best cover songs are songs that you didn't know were covers (or songs where no one cared that much about the original). For example:

Cum On Feel The Noise - Slade/Quiet Riot
When The Levee Breaks - Joe McCoy & Memphis Minnie/Led Zeppelin
Dazed And Confused - John Holmes/Led Zeppelin
Tainted Love - Gloria Jones/Soft Cell
I Love Rock And Roll - Arrows/Joan Jett
Hard To Handle - Otis Redding/The Black Crowes
Superstition - Jeff Beck/Stevie Wonder

As well as the aforementioned:

Nothing Compares 2 U - The Family/Sinead O'Connor
Hey Joe - The Leaves/Jimi Hendrix
All Along The Watchtower - Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix
Hurt - Nine Inch Nails/Johnny Cash
Mad World - Tears For Fears/Gary Jules

Of course there are my own personal favorites

Tweeter And The Monkey Man - Travelling Wilbury's/The Headstones
Sympathy For The Devil - Rolling Stones/Guns n' Roses
Magical Mystery Tour - The Beatles/Cheap Trick
You Really Got Me - The Kinks/Van Halen
Under My Thumb - Rolling Stones/Streetheart
Bad Side Of The Moon - Elton John/April Wine

(And every other cover I would have mentioned is more or less a "remix" in some way, shape, or form... like the song Luna by Odyssey Eurobeat...)
Don't know if this is is what you were referring to, but my pick has to go to Cyrilthewolf's "Luna's New Republic", which I believe is actually a hybrid cover of two different songs: The aformentioned "Luna" by Odyssey Eurobeat and Notacleverpony's "New Lunar Republic", done in a Hard-Rock style (at least, from my understanding of what Hard Rock is). Anyways, it's easily the one song I've listened to more than any other throughout the past two years.

I was actually referring to Tarby's cover of Luna:
But, simultaneously it's also a remix of the original... So, it's both a cover and a remix in that sense...

Another example (that I just thought of) is the swing cover of Tombstone's remix of Odyssey's Discord:
(Yeah... I still say this version is better than Tombstone's remix version...)

Recently got popular, but the video of this dude (Josh Weathers) covering Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You"
You have just epic failed. Whitney Houston's version is a cover of a Dolly Parton song.

My fave cover has to be Can't Help Falling in Love by Corey Hart. I just think it has more desperation and feeling than Elvis Presley's.

I definitely love both versions, but Powerman 5000s' cover of "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" by The Clash is an absolutely amazing take on the song in my opinion: video[/youtube]

My friend sent me a copy of his cover of John Cage's 4`33".

It's a faithful and carefully plotted copy of the original, except he hits a wrong note on the organ at the end. It made it better, though, in my opinion.

Santa Esmeralda's cover of a cover.

I always thought The Animals originally did it, but it turns out to be Nina Simone...who didn't write it either. Either way, it's all cool though. Yeah, sure, the only reason why I know about this cover is because of Kill Bill, but it doesn't make it any less awesome!

For reasons unknown, I love the Me First and the Gimmie Gimmie's version of Somewhere over the rainbow:

As a fun anecdote, when I was in basic training and doing the final rifle qualification, it began lightly raining. This caused a rainbow to appear over the range. So I just started belting out the above version of the song. In spite of never scoring above marksman (23/40 shots minimum if memory serves), that day I qualified expert (38/40). Hell, before that day, I'd never even hit the 300 meter target once!

For those interested in doing something similar, I wouldn't recommend it. Turns out Drill Sergeants don't like merriment of any sort and thus I spent quite some time doing various exercises as a result of my "transgression".

Pendulum's cover of "The Catalyst" by Linkin Park ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC8Cb9fsMwY ) is just... EPIC!

Same with Linkin Park's version of "Rolling In The Deep" by Adele ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHtwZ07N1ic ). I don't like Adele, but Chester's voice trumps hers any day anyway.

Then, of course, there's Soft Cell's cover of "Tainted Love" by Gloria Jones ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeJkbqjQvnk ) and Funker Vogt's version of "Harvester of Sorrow" by Metallica ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysWb8OtzTQ8 ).

I'll throw up another one for Gary Jules' Mad World, cover of the original song by Tears for Fears. The lyrics fit better to Jules' performance, and it's just a lovely melancholy song to listen to.

In no way do I dislike the original, aside from maybe hearing it too much, but I REALLY love Throne of Chaos' take on Deep Purple.

And I know how highly regarded Bathory is in metal circles, but I outright love Warbringers take on this track infinitely better.
