That´s the usual stupidity:

things go a little rough and someone starts screaming that "THE END IS NIGH!!!!"
And these Doomwatchers got a audience immediately- unbelievable.

Maybe this guys want at least ONE interesting thing happening in their lives!
Beware witch burning is is revived next.
Ugh!

I would honestly be more surprised if the sales of videogames hadn't gone down now because of the recession.

Video games are too big now to just go away, and I don't see them going away for a very, very, very long time.

Here's what I think: Piracy rate will keep going up steadily, graphics are getting better and better and will cost more to make. This will make game companies make games primarily for consoles and focus on sequels and hardly have any innovation at all (even more so than before).

This will create a vacuum of innovative, creative, fresh and original games which will have to get filled due to demand, but how can you develop a game when the piracy rate is so high?

The answer: Information Communism. Games created by the people for the people. Everything would be donation and volunteer-work based. The development would be completely open (no NDA or secrecy) and people from all over the world could create textures, models, voice acting, anything the developers would put on the requests page. Think about it. When the piracy rate climbs, you won't be able to make a profit anymore, information capitalism will become redundant.

Games and movies are a good medium to escape reality,so many people enjoy playing a game after a long day of work or school. Although the fact remains that nothing is recession proof, but I think games have nothing to worry about in the terms of "dying".

It's a global recession and someone's saying the video games industry is dying? Talk about jumping to conclusions. Yes, the video game industry is certainly facing some problems, like games on certain systems becoming very expensive to develop for, but it's not the apocalypse.

If this is true, we simply need a return to the old school. That will invigorate love for gaming once more.

It's obviously a documentary trying to trick me into watching it with a catchy title, but since it worked and it's free I'll watch it anyway.

It's absolutely dead. Just like the automotive, porn, and dairy industries are also dead. Banking too.*sarcasm*

It goes like this. At the moment the economy is fucked, and the industries that AREN'T affected are a short list than the ones that are. And by the way, who's idea was it to consider gaming "recession proof"? Seems like when people have less money their gonna drop $60 less often, not more.

And here comes the rub. When spending goes down, business goes down, when business goes down people get laid off, and the more people are laid off the further spending goes down. It's a vicious, self-perpetuating cycle.

But we'll get through it. We have before. And if we don't then WE ALL have a lot more to worry about than video games.

No videogames prices are dropping because of recession. Not everyone has the money to spend on 70$ videogames. Websites like this are examples of how videogames are not dying. Did you see websites like this 10 years ago?

As I watched the video I felt like I shared a few ideas with some of the guys, at least in some way or another. I do agree that a lot of companies are taking big gambles, and when they lose the bet they look stupid in front of the video game community. The fact that EA was bragging about that one billion dollar deal with China never came through was just the tip of the iceberg. I also agree that it's not that the industry is dead, just that no one can see the future. Having said that, my philosophy is never to think about how far down it's going to go, but if the the industry has what it takes to pull itself back up again.

It did back in '85

Porn will die before Video Games. I'm having no problems finding Porn so obviously Video Games will be doing just fine.
