People might also come to know you as indecisive avatar guy :D

Nobody relies on indecisive avatar guy. If you can't even decide what avatar to have, how can you be trusted with anything else?
Sorry, you were saying something?
I just needed to change my avatar again. :D
It's all fun and games until I have to choose someone to do something.

Guess who won't be chosen, possibly for fighting aliens, possibly for organising a pub brawl?

Poor Sass. No alien fighting or pub crawl organising for you.

I recognise several in this thread alone - even you TheDarkEricDraven, even though you've changed your avatar I see. Don't worry, I see beyond your avatar to the real you... ¤____¤ (<-- creepy stare)

I also see that the MarchMadness avatar season has begun =P [sub][sup](I'm so proud that I recognise people despite this; I usually go by avatar but I'm learning your names! HALLELUJAH! *previously thought she had early onset Alzheimer's*)[/sup][/sub]

Hey, at-least I'll always recognise you, we can be overshadowed together ;-)
I....don't recognize you. We're friends, though...did we slay a dragon together?
Nah, you're getting me confused with someone-else, we met at the cheese festival of '83 remember? Man I was picking that stuff out of my drill for weeks afterwards...

You're the androgynous neo-pagan, right?

There are plenty of regulars that I recognize.

I always try to remember people by their usernames, and not just by their avatars.
Often when someone changes their avatar, I have to re-learn who that person is! (particularly if they've had their old avatar for a while).

Not sure if anyone recognizes me though . . .
I do. You're a frequenter in the Fallout LP thread.

anyway I generlaly regonise avatars..but now ive been generally recognising usernames (and regulars) as well.....
You're the person with that odd dog like avatar that keeps changing in reference to games, correct?

OT: For me, I recognize people mostly by their avatar, but I know a few by their names.

I tend to recognize people through avatar, first. Later, I begin to recognize how they usually comment on certain issues and they way they comment. And then if I'm really focusing, I pick out their username. So yeah, that's kinda how I recognize and associate with other users.

I wonder if a good chunk of people recognize me? Probably. I try to keep things low-brow, avoid threads I know will annoy me (HA), and awhile back I took a long break from the Escapist. However, as of late, I've kinda been a pointless jerk and extremely stupid in certain threads. Hmm...

By their avatars. Only a handfun of them I actually recognize though.
If you got an avatar that sticks out, and write stuff that's actually worth reading, odds are I'll pay attention. ;)

Multitude of different ways.

I can tell you that Evilthecat is into feminism, SpiderJerusalem dislikes the stuff MovieBob posts and JulianKing likes little girls a bit too much. Generally Avatar and name let's you know who they are but quote a few people give you an impression of their philosophy and political outlook as well as gaming tastes.

However, posters like myself are of low enough notoriety to fly beneath the radar.

I recognize a lot of avatars, a few names, and for two or three people, I can tell who it is by post content. But those people are usually the ones with the more, shall we say, controversial opinions.

Really though, the easiest way to get recognized, is don't change your avatar all that often (something I've done a bit of lately, but have finally settled on one that I like).

I recognize about 4 people that have commented in this thread by their avatar - names are not my specialty so a nice picture will do the trick if you want me to acknowledge your existence ;)

A Hermit's Cave
I recognise Escapists primarily by their username (or avatar if they keep the same one for a while or have a certain theme... chaps from FG, lookin' at you lot).

Some I can identify from the way that they post, but they're fairly few.

*shrug* ... same as everyone else basically... -_-

Yes, some of them. Most I recognize from their avatar(like that guy with the running dog/wolf/digimon/whatever avatar), some by their name (Lilithslave) and a few by the unique way they shape their posts (Jack and Calumon).

Same as everyone else: mostly avatars. Select few names. A couple posting styles (be it through grammar slips, frequent ellipses use, frequent emoticon use, or other distinct patterns).
Demeanor. Attitude. Post count. Badges. Join date.
Many things, really. Whatever sticks in your mind.

I used to recognise people by avatar but then I stopped coming on here for a couple of months and now the only avatar I still remember is the Zapdos and Team Rocket one...

I wasn't implying it was untrue, I'm upset(and a little hurt, really) because THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE Escapist user who is remembered for their love of lolicon, and that is the user speaking!

*sigh*

Forever known as the androgynous neo-pagan isn't bad either, though.
no i remember another chap who had an avatar with an picture of some anime fellow wearing an eye-patch, who was quite enamored with animated features from the orient staring prepubescent paramours.

I know a couple of people's avatars... and one persons name...

As for me, I think people can identify me by my name (in my experience it's rather memorable), and the fact that I never change my avatar (although I DID recently change the background color of it!)

...of course, if all else fails, they can identify me by the fact that I start and end most sentences with a "..."...

...it's a habit, I'm trying to quit.
