i want to wear gaming shirts, but i'm immediately forced to think of the like 12 year olds that wear NES controller shirts and attire, and have never even touched one. i file those people under those pricks who wear Che Guavera shirts because they're 'in', and have no idea who Che was.
and those people are lower than fans of Ed Hardy. lol and that's low. XD

I think it's because girl gamers know that guy gamers find that shit hella sexy.
well, that is true. It's a shame it usually doesn't work the other way.
Oh, but sometimes it does. A well-kept, grown man who actually knows his gaming? That's dead sexy, my friend.

What happens if you're just a grown man who knows his gaming? :)

I dont tell people I play games cause I crave the chicks and the chicks dont like gamers so its kinda underground stuff im doing in my apartment when im alone. Any girls that come to my appartment cant tell im a gamer... all they can say is "OH MY GOD DONT STOP" ... but thats another story.

I used to get people randomly asking me what I was playing on my DS, it wasn't too bad, but I just found that a bit weird, especially when it's a complete stranger.
I am quite proud to be a gamer, but I'm a bit embarrassed to tell anyone about Ouendan.
Because people make fun of me for it because they're uncultural bums who can't appreciate something unless it's in English.

So i'm right in assuming your age is about, what... 15??

I think it's a naive and sweeping generalisation to say that 'chicks dont like gamers'. Probably more than half the ladies i know find it attractive or own a console themselves. Definitely none of them will judge on the basis of someones hobbies or in some cases addiction (WoW excluded...that's a lifestyle)

Just for arguments sake, I do actually have a fair few female friends (check out that sweetass alliteration)

Alas, we all abhor absolutely awful alliterations.

It occurs to me that I've been even "geekier" than picking up a video game preorder in a suit... I've come back from work carrying 2500 points of Tau miniatures in a transparent bag with a big screamin' "Games Workshop" logo on the side. I wonder what that would've looked like to the uninitiated?
Pretty awesome to those of us without enough gil to feed the 40K beast.

Im 29 :) Im an emo heavy gamer which means I play alot but it hurts my feelings.

However, dont bring me stuff like "Pokemon Blue Platinum Power Master Remix" cause I prefer real men games..

For example... I LOVE FPSs and RPGs... but if they have cartoonish graphics im gone, I just dont take it seriously. If the guy gets hit by a sword, can we have some flesh and blood please? Not a freaking big water drop floating over the head of my character...wtf. Pinkboy Kirby also can go back to marshmellow land or wherever he was created.

Ya see, the main reason is that most "gamers" (Not just game players, but the ones who regularly read the magazines as well) are disgusting nerds. I'm not saying all, but generally most of them are, and if you have enough of a life to go outside (as I do), you often don't want that negative stereotype automatically attributed to you. I don't like being associated with most of "teh gamerz" I meet on the interwebs, but it's inevitable if I go around advertising my obsession with the gaming industry.

I'm always talking to relatives and acquaintances - people I can explain it to - about games and gaming in general, but I don't think I'd ever read a games magazine on a bus or train because of the way that gaming is seen by non-gamers. Basically, it's either a murder simulator or it's a fantasy adventure full of faries and goblins and crap, and TheIceface hit the nail on the head by saying you don't want that stereotype associated with you. The former may mean you get yelled at by a misinformed old woman who thinks you're going to murder her grandchildren and the latter may make everyone look at you as if they're not quite sure whether you've had your pills today.

I really have no problem gaming in public, either on my PSP or DS. Partly because I don't really care what other people think of me, and why should I? They don't know me. I got some funny looks as I swore at Burnout on my PSP when on a plane, but as soon as I stopped (because I was disturbing people, not because I cared. I may have nothing but disdain for my fellow man, but I'm considerate) nobody was interested.

Of course I might get hauled off by men in white coats if I were playing Nintendogs on a bus...

LOL! i can't tell if you're being serious or not! Emo heavy gamer?
Does that mean you have to keep a box of kleenex next to your xBox?

I don't mind cartoonish looking games as long as they're stylised.
WoW for example is terrible in my opinion, it's just lacklustre cartoony with cliche characters and mind-numbing gameplay.
On the other side we have games like Psychonauts//Grim fandango etc. which are cartoony but have a very thick and apt sense of style which stand out proudly and drown the players senses (in a good way...like being drowned with honey)

Agreed with the violence thing though, if there's anything games need more of, it's gore, dismemberment and facemelting!

Wow, this got off-topic fast didn't it??
