Does believing in Karma count as superstition? I do, but i have a pretty good reason too.

I'm not sure I count Karma as superstition, I'm sure your reasoning for it is interesting though.
what about reincarnation, cos i have my reasons for believing that
I do wonder what's the real, true difference between beleiving that a black cat crossing your path gives you bad luck or that a horseshoe gives you good luck and beleiving that a virgin gave birth to someone (pointing at Horus here, ooooobviously!) or that there is some kind of magical energy that somehow sees and judges your actions and adjusts your life accordingly. I really see no real difference between the 2, some are just more trivial then others.

Anyway, for me, no. Today was a pretty fraked up day though, it took me 2 hours and 15 minutes to get to school, usually I do it in 50-55. O well, it pales in comparison with 2 days ago, when I found out that the first girl I ever though I could have a future with was a lesbian. Hence why I don't really care about the bitching trains, could be sooooo much worse :p Besides, it's not that such railroad problems never happen except on friday the 13th.

I'm not superstitious at all. It's just a load of frantic belief and a need for explanations.
Also, Friday the 13th doesn't work unless it's in June. Because it's a day remembering a certain historical event...

If a black cat crosses my path, I yell, "KITTY!" and chase it down the road.

i think we need to define a superstition, to avoid confusion.

when i think superstition, i think old wives tales; don't walk under a ladder/sign, don't cross paths with a black cat etc

i understand that pretty much everyone will lump karm, god and so on together in the same boat, but whether i like it or not, i have my reasons for believing reincarnation to be true, or at the very least possible. same with karma; it seems that whenever someone does something that hurts me in some way, something bad always happens to them shortly thereafter, and i've taken to calling it my Karmic retribution.

before anyone says anything, i'm not Kew Age, god forbid (he can go stick his head in a pig as well!)
i believe in science and logic, or at least i think i do......

I wouldn't walk under a ladder for some reason, but this crap with the black cats and walking on cracks etc. seems to be a load of balls.

Also I've had a pretty damn fine day today, on this Friday the 13th.

I'm not superstitious, but I do have great fun creating new superstitions for easily lead people.
"oh I wouldn't do that if I were you, eating food beginning with 'P' on a Thursday makes you sterile"

I didn't think friday 13th was really connected to bad luck, until this one. Let's just say, It had something to do with fridays being normally free days, but today, I had to walk to class in pouring rain and HAIL! Little fucking ice shards for a mile at 8:00 IN THE MORNING!

Depends on the superstition =/

Every time I walk under a ladder, people tend to fall onto me.

I consider myself not to be superstitious, as I only believe in things that are real and superstition is about things that are not real/proven/tangible. However, I would believe in something considered to be superstitious if I had experiential/empirical proof of it (i.e. I would believe in aliens if I interacted with one).

My thought on karma - I believe in it, in a "My Name is Earl" sort of way.

I am also terrified by sleep paralysis (see the recent thread instead of tangenting here), but as of yet do not believe in "hags"/etc.

The rest, no.

No, I don't believe in superstition. I don't believe in karma either. I mean no offense to those that do it's just that I've seen a lot of horrible things happen to people that didn't deserve them so I question whether there is any order in this Universe.

P.S. If anyone out there does believe in karma and would care to explain why, I encourage you to do so. I find other points of view interesting.

I think karma is a part of god, and its your "in-game reward" for doing good things in life. But the reward itself only amounts to random chance occurring in your favor instead of against. Think "pay it forward." It's also very loose, as you can't just feed the homeless to cover up stock fraud or something like that - there's no points or anything, and you can't pre-atone for something, as that would be cheating. Mostly just little things, like hitting all green lights on the way to work or something. The reverse is true as well, god might just mess with you a little to keep your sense of humility in check, god wouldn't just outright smite you or anything.

EDIT - oh, and I don't think it's a magical force to auto-punish or reward you, just god paying attention and treating you how you deserve to be treated. If you have minor silly bad luck occasionally, you don't have to dig deep within yourself to find some damning flaw, just be a little more generous, etc.

i'm not superstitious i just don't think staying in places called camp crystal lake, or Haddonfield, Illinois. If you can name the two classics serial killers and the name of there movies and why they did it without using google you get 20 points idk what there good for but there yours.
