There's a whole psychological aspect behind it that can get really long and somewhat annoying, but I can try to explain it for you if you'd like. The short version is: some people are the same, some people aren't. I'm the same, but I know that a lot of my friends aren't. I also would like to point out that some online stuff can change people. Not the fact that they are online, mind you, it's the people they associate with. Although the same can be said for the people that hang out with people in real life, so it affects people the same and whether they would act differently in one place or another is seen more in how they are influenced by others than the actual factor of the internet in and of itself.

And that was the short version. XD

Yes and No. If you count xbox live then I'm a troll who only bashed dumbass 12-year olds (is that justifiable?). But here on the escapist I usually am myself. But since you can take all the time you want to type something I am way more open and and focused and I don't really worry about the responses I get (unlike school where people will use what you say as ammo just to humiliate you).

when im online i am no longer some dude who plays 40k and D&D who has swishy hair no i channel the spirit of an ancient samurai warrior and together we go on a quest to destroy every other person online.

also some times i act like the ultimate warrior y'know for shits and giggles.

Nah, I'm much goofier and outgoing online. I'm a timid and highly serious person IRL.

I'm pretty much silent in real life, until I get to know you.

Offline, you'd be lucky to get a "Hello" from me.
Pretty much like these two.

For the most part yes, I do tend to have a bit looser grip on my tounge but I never say anything I wouldn't say to anyones face.

I'm more outspoken on the internet than in person. I'm also a bit more cold and condescending. I'm a surprising amount more social on the internet than in real life, too; I'm more likely to stay in a corner and think to myself about a topic than willingly participate in it like I am now.

That said, am I myself? I'm not usually myself, even in person. If I were ever myself, people'd realize how much of an emotional train wreck and failure at everything I am.

I guess I'm closer to myself when online than when I'm physically around people.

When I'm in a party with friends I am.

When I'm in, say, a co-op game of Resident Evil 5 or Army of Two: The 40th Day with somebody I don't know, I generally tend to take charge, unless they do it first.

Then after a few conversations, we become friends xD People tell me I make friends with everyone.

I am as much myself online as I am in meatspace. That is an accurate answer that conveys no useful information I think but it's the best I can do.

In RL, I'm more subdued, conservative, always smiling, never complaining.

Online, I'm the goddamn Batman.

I act differently in real life, not vice-versa. So to answer your question, yes I am myself when I'm online.

I'm probably a lot nicer online and less likely to get up in your face. I guess online has the advantage of being able to think before I type, rather then irl when I just open my mouth without thinking.
