I don't like it not because of how it recruits but because of how much it costs, hell if someone is on the fence about joining a game isn't going to change their mind.

I find it immensely disturbing that the army would use video-games as a recruitment tool, and horrendously worrying that it's working.

Overheard somewhere in Afghanistan,
"Geeze, the respawning mechanics in American Army IRL suck."

Honestly, they're probably just trying to justify dumping so much tax money on the game by hyping any correlation they can.

I've got a feeling that teenagers lured into the army by games such as Modern Warfare 2 are going to be in for a rude awakening when they deploy...

Although this story does remind me of this College Humor sketch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlxZKUWXxiU

Keep in mind that 13 year old kids (or older) went here, I highly doubt they even know what's for dinner next week.

I guess it depends on the age range of who went there, but it does seem a bit disurbitng that they were using a game that glorifies war to promote it. Just seems a bit dishonest to me, but hey, I don't plan to go to the army so that's they're decision.
...you seriously know whats for dinner next week? i do it day to day....

OT: kinda cool, a way to do modern day propoganda to attract people perhaps to looking into the army at least. if not, decent fun.

no matter what it is, sports/school/army/etc...start em early, they'll be better in the long run

Eh, sounds like a fun place to visit with buds. Also I really love real life sims like they had.

Oh, I get you, protesters. From now on, whenever we sell a military-based shooter, it should come bundled with a controller that shoots you in the face whenever your character gets hit, because anything else would be dishonest propaganda.

Seems like a place I would have wanted to hang out at when I was a kid, wish they had one 20 years ago! I bet 90% of the people that object to the AEC also object to the Army in general. Go figure...

edit: I also like the use of the word "Luring" in the title, that is not leading at all!

That's the main reason why there's so much FPS games, and why it has become so popular... recruitment propaganda has never been so lucrative as nowadays...

... what they don't tell you is that you won't be playing video games anymore after you join the army.

Hmm, I suppose I was overestimating the capabilities of 13 year old children. Sometimes I forget that few people have the dynamic psychic abilities that I posses.

i guess it depends on what you eat...but why do you plan that far ahead? what if you end up smelling or seeing something else that you might want that day? im on the go half the time so i get fast food a couple times a week and pick up things at the store as im on the go..

Something about the phrasing of the title using the word "luring" just kinda creeped me out. I do agree though with the protesters points.

The protestors are dumb and are just looking for something to protest about. Videogames don't recruit people to the military. Anybody who thinks otherwise is an idiot, imho. Who out there sees Modern Warfare and thinks, "Wow, shooting terrorists in a desert is so easy, I'm going to undergo 13 weeks of training....with no videogames.....and then get sent over there so I can do it in real life". No one does. The people in our military know what they are getting into, they understand they can die at any time. That is why we let them kill people legally.

It's not luring kids with lies, and you know what, if someone actually DOES think war is just like a videogame I WANT them to die. They do NOT need to be passing on their genes.

These comments make me sick. A bunch of fifteen year olds sit comfortably behind their computer screens on their pseudo-intellectal "I'm a big boy" high horses and bash people who make the decision to join the Army. I wonder if they had any actual experience or knowledge of what they were talking about maybe they wouldn't come off as complete retards.

I have no problem with this at all, reasonable people won't join the army over video games, and if a few people do, well that's their choice. I'm a fan of people taking responsibility for their actions, rather then blaming external forces, so if people choose to join over this then it's their fault, not the centre's. I'd also note that Walter Camp pointed out that football is in many ways a simplified wargame, yet I see no protests about that. The only thing that worries me is that this could be used by politicians and uneducated parents as reasoning for the old 'violent video games make your kids want to butcher people' argument.

Quoted for truth, I knew a guy in high school who believed that when he was in the army he'd be able to fight through any injury and the only way the enemy was going to put him down was with a bullet in the head. That extreme cockiness needs a good dose of Afghanistan methinks.
