While seasoned gamers may enjoy convoluted plot twists, complicated character creation systems, and memorizing endless lists of special moves and 10-hit combos, most casual gamers are going to find these elements unappealing. If casual gamers become the majority, what does that mean for games like Dragon Age and Tekken?
What is he smoking? Casual gamers are not the death of the industry. Far from it: they are the lifeblood of the industry. If the industry does not get new people every once in a while, it is going to die out. Look at comic books. They are not attracting enough new readers and their ventures in other media is not working. The same thing could easily happen to the Video Game industry
Furthermore, the Wii is going have bigger societal impact than his ire is going to allow him to see. Every parent that has a wii fit and uses it on a daily basis will be one less parent that Jack Thompson and his ilk cannot touch. They will be a person that says, "But my wii loves me. It gives me fitness tips, help me lose weight, and provides hours of family entertainment. How can something like that be the ruination of America. If we get enough mothers and fathers like that, then Video games will stop being the Satan to these groups.
Sorry to disappoint him, but Tekken and Dragon Age are already accessible to Casual gamers. Dragon age is easy enough that anyone can pick it up and play. So is Tekken. So is Prototype, inFamous, Borderlands, and every other so called hardcore game. All games have a simple tutorial telling you how to do things. Batman: Arkham Asylum is kind enough to tell you how to fight, how to throw things and how to use all the nifty little gadgets.
