There was an episode of CSI about it too. Some guy murdered a young girl by shooting into the sky and he hit her in her house a long ways away.
And CSI is, of course, always realistic about everything. Therefore, the (probably) liberal writers of the show can, of course, be trusted to relate bullet velocity information in a completely factual and nonpartisan way, without any kind of sensationalism.
Making guns illegal doesn't help, because criminals aren't going to obey laws in the first place. I suppose obliterating all guns from an entire country, then closing the borders might help, but then I suspect there'd be a wave of stabbings. Besides, most people who are strongly anti-gun have no idea just how many gun laws are in place already. And banishing guns in the US will never work, because this country was built on guns.
Guns are a part of our very society, as evidenced by how much they show up in movies and video games. It's not just a "violence is everywhere" thing, because there are lots of different kinds of violence. Even very anti-gun movie writers and game developers keep putting guns into their movies and games, and most people still think of a gun as the "end all, be all" of weapons... Which means that the first thing a potential criminal will want to have with him when he commits a crime is, you guessed it, a gun.
