I think its fine, I dont expect everyone to enjoy guns, but I ask them to respect my rights.
Mostly I think they havent been exposed to guns properly, fear is good when dealing with anything capable of killing, I dont know a single gun owner who doesnt know that their gun is capable of killing them and doesnt have a reasonable fear of it, they use that fear to heighten their caution.
Thanks for the info Mathurin, I have held a gun before and been around with friends who own guns often but it doesn't make feel safer. However unlike them I wasn't raised with a father who owned a gun all my life, I just don't need them for anything and I protect myself in other ways.

How much does a good gun cost?

Which gun would you recommend for my closet in case of burglary?

How many rounds does it take before I can shoot and be sure that I hit something?

Will it help me at all that I am a very good shot in FPS'?

For the closet a shotgun works well(best for home defense as they usually don't go though walls and its stopping power is unrivaled at close range). A good gun usually cost 400+(handguns that is) shot guns are 150-400 for a mossberg 500 or Remington 870
Being a good shot in a FPS won't help a bit. Its usually not how many rounds you shoot, but how often you shot. It's about 100-200 rounds before your comfortable with a pistol and then about 100 rounds a month to stay in practice. Shotguns on the other hand are pretty much point and shoot

There is only one question:

Glock, or John Moses Browning?
Well I hate glocks grip angle (i much more prefer the upright 1911 style grips) and i've never shot a browning so I have no opinion on them.
Springfield XDs are my fav (pistol wise)

Why not own swords instead?
Decreased range and increased physical ability requirements.
Swords are probably fun, and if I move out of podunk Kansas I will probably try to learn alittle fencing, just for fun.

That depends on the weapon, figure over $400 for a pistol, significantly less for a pump shotgun, especially if you can find a used one.

If you want a defense gun its a very personal decision, you need to have a decent idea of what you might need to do.
For instance, its not reliable but in some areas if you search out and shoot a burglar you will be heavily prosecuted, if you have a family then this is reduced.
Some states or local areas have certain guns banned, find out about your area.

So you have to decide what you are going to do.
If you are alone in the house then a shotgun is good, lots of firepower, but difficult to manuever in tight spaces, the best thing to do is point it at your bedroom door and call the cops.
If you have a family and must get them to safety then a pistol is better, it will require more training on your part but is more mobile.

Its personal, some people are natural shooters that need little work, some people are not good shots.

No, clicking a mouse held on a solid surface is very different from supporting a weight and holding it steady while squeezing the trigger.

Amen brother, preach it. Glocks to me have always felt like trying to balance a lead rod on top of my hand. XDs have great balance and are easy to control (feeling like they're in your hand not on it).

As for me, I'm a gun owner and a supporter of gun rights. I'm not a "right-wing conservative" (libertarian thank you very much). There are multiple guns in my house and I am comfortable with the use of every one. I don't hunt because I find it incredibly boring. I see no reason not to have a national gun registry at least then we can weed out these hooting dickhole gun dealers that are selling under the table.

Criminals get guns from unscrupulous people. If you ban guns from the civilian population then criminals will still have guns and we will be protecting our property with swords. I live in Missouri which has a conceal/carry law which has already stopped multiple violent crimes. We recently passed a "texas trespass law" as well. As long as people can show the competency to carry a gun then they should be able to. To protect themselves and others from the criminal or nutjob.

It wasn't too long ago at a wal-mart (the location escapes me) a guy came in and started stabbing a cashier (who was also his estranged wife) and a customer in her line had a concealed weapon (and the license to carry it) and when he pulled it out to apprehend the attacker the man with the knife went after him and he shot and killed him. The woman lived and so did all of the other customers. Do you really think the shooter at Virginia Tech would have done as much damage had anybody in the vicinity had a legally concealed weapon. We saw what happened when there wasn't.

Have you ever wondered anything about guns?
Ask me, I dont know everything but I know alot and can easily discover what I dont know.

I am not a hardcore gamer, but if you have a question about firearms that relate to games I will do my best.
Gun history
Gun laws
Anything remotely firearm related is open for questions.
wht are guns for?
Guns are for throwing rocks, really fast and really small rocks.
Anything else is user intent.one do?

Wrong guns are designed to kill and not to fire really small rocks really fast you muppet stick with the original THRead we were discussing you muppet.
Well, you're both wrong. A gun is a mechanical device built to house and move a very small pin a very short distance forward at a rather alarming speed. The killing/defense stuff you're thinking of come from the bullets. Otherwise, a gun firing blanks is by definition a broken gun, as nothing comes out save for expelled burning powder and gas.
