Do you get to blow shit up?
We're trained in the use of Grenades and other explosives. so, yes we get to "Blow shit up". Though I don't know about anyone else, but hand grenades are genuinely terrifying.

Grenade training was some of the most fun I've ever had in my service, but yes they are also scary as hell, there's some serious destructive potential in those little baseball sized (give or take) orbs. Also release your preconception of what a grenade detonation looks like, it's a cloud of dust and shrapnel not a fire ball

Have any of our military contibutors ever worked with the Belgian military?
Our air force is deployed in Afghanistan and now in Libya in active combat roles, and other branches on some UN peacekeeping missions, after a long period where our defense minister just had our army sit around with their thumbs up their asses.
I'm just wondering 'cause news sources here are biased to say the least.
I remember a couple of months ago a headline in the newspaper said something like "Our air force murdered 3 men in Afghanistan".
Murdered. As opposed to engaged and destroyed the enemy.

TL;DR: Ever work with Belgian military on a mission?
Nope, I've only been deployed once.

were you forced to do other jobs and tasks you originally did not sign up to do?
I specifically wasn't but some of the other lads have been. Most of the time it's not that bad. Either you take control of the sections LMG or radio. Though sometimes they will place you onto a trade, like heavy weapons or mortar squads. this is rare, most of the time you will get the option to chose what specialisation you wish to train in.

Im thinking of joining the Royal Marines, what do you think of them guys?
Go for it, the more, the stronger
Royal Marines are by far the best choice. Though be prepared. The training is the most difficult and longest infantry training in the NATO forces. a whole 32 weeks of hell.

I really like light machine guns, can I specifically train for one?
If you excel with them in training you may be given the sections LMG. Though I don't envy you. It's just another load of weight.

It would be satisfying to shoot, plus it looks intimidating and you can claim that your gun is the biggest.

And heaviest? xD

They normally give the section LMG to the new guys for this very reason.

Just proves you're the manlier and tougher by being able to hump it with a grin on your face, which a weapon that large would surely provide.

Whilst it is technically illegal...Most Royal Marines will keep their "Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting knife". Purely because it is a symbol of our unit.

Other than that, not really. It's not worth it.

i feel like i would favor a light rifle. lighter than a hunting rifle, just as accurate.

I suppose you could say that. On the same note, if someone said that to me and asked to carry the gun, I would be more than happy to switch back to my rifle. Plus, the extra ammunition you have to carry is a nightmare.

Until zombies come, in which case you'll be the last one to run dry.

Wow, I'm very glad you gave me an awesome reason to skip a useless Philosophy class!
=D.

I just wanted to say you know, that I was curious about the questions people would ask and what would be answered. I got sucked in! A lot of the questions asked were questions that I also had.
Personally I know I'd never be able to even pass the fitness requirements. I've always marveled at people who could run a mile in five minutes.
xD.

Hmmm, but I guess I do have a question. How's this medical leave going? Do you have to go home or somewhere else for it? And if so, do you miss your buddies and is it hard falling out of that routine you'd established before?

I also agree with you about grenades. While I've never had to handle a live one or anything of course, I found myself to be incredibly uneasy when I was shown a deactivated one. Just the feel of it made me nauseous.
