Does Scottish Gaelic get used at all outside of the North of Scotland.
Why aren't they making young Scotts learn it in school?

i went to school in the south (Glasgow), i think we dont learn it for the same reason noone learns latin anymore. its just not used, to be fair its a tradition but we have alot of tradition besides Gaelic

Yeah that would be a pity.
I'm an aussie with no doubt Scottish heratage and with only 200 or so years of history here you tend to apperciate counties with alot of history and tradition.
It would be a shame to see it die off as a langauge.

The reason we don't learn Gaelic in school is beacause there are just under 60 thousand people who speak Scots Gaelic in Scotland, and the pronounciation is so alien. We have so much history and tradition, why try to segregate ourselves by learning a near dead language? Sure, remember the language, but there is little reason to put the effort in to learn it these days.

If you want a "gaelic area" as you describe, the best place would be the Outer Hebrides

People seem to be able to repeatedly ignore the fact that it's merely cooked inside a sheeps stomach. Damn, most shop-bought haggis doesn't involve sheeps stomach of any kind.

It's just a meaty, oaty, spiced plate of lovleyness, served with mash!
