So fiction is filled with many unlike-able characters, though characters who are Ass-holes don't always fall into this category. This is strange as these a characters you would not want to be associated with or have to deal with but when we see what they do we can't help but love them, but often for different reasons, may it be how over the top they are e.g. shooting a janitor for missing a spot, or for the fact that no matter what they say and how rudely they say it they are always right.

So I want to know what Ass-hole characters to you like and why?

I love the anti-hero, deadpool and the like, not outright baddy baddies, but definitely not good guys. Like Grayson Hunt and most of the characters from bulletstorm, the majority of them are assholes, but I found them hilarious, and the main protagonist in Saints Row 3, they seem to be on the same train of thought as me in those games, which makes them even more fantastic.

For some reason I alike Amon and Tarlok from Legend of Korra.
Iorveth and Roche from the Witcher 2.

Why do I like them?
Anti heroes and villains don't operate under the same moral code as the hero, so they tend to have much more personality, since they aren't afraid of/ don't care what people think of them, after all, most of them can just kill you and be done with it.

There has to be more to the character than JUST being an asshole for me to like them. House is a prime example. He's an ass, and he's severely flawed, while at the same time brilliant and just nice enough at times to make you think the whole being an ass is just an act.

Because there are time when that a hole character can be really funny? (I'm thinking of Church from Red Vs Blue.)

It's a bit of wish fulfilment I think - sometimes we all want to act like ass-holes but we don't because we'd have to live with the consequences. We have to vent somehow.

My fav total and utter bastard has got to be Yagami Light. I'm a sucker for a god complex. Honourable mentions to Kazuo Kiriyama from Battle Royale and Jareth from Labyrinth.

Tarlok... maybe but Amon is far from being an asshole. He seems to have a rather interesting agenda and from what was depicted in the show he has all reasons for his behaviour.
He strikes me as a little fanatical. He is certainly less of an A-hole than Tarlok, and he has better ethics, he takes the bending away from the those who commit crimes before those who don't.
However, that doesn't change the fact that he is intolerant of all benders and eventually wants to take the ability away from everyone, regardless of wrongdoing. Even if he has a good reason for it, he's still committing a crime against a large group of people based on the actions of a few, thus he's an A-hole.

Asshole characters I like:
Vegeta - No explanation needed
Deadpool - The guy shoots at, betrays and uses his friends as bullet shields and death fodder!
Frieza - He's so damn sophisticated and asshole-ish. I really liked his character in TFS Abridged.
Barney Stinson - The guy directs trouble towards his friends on a regular basis
Baird from Gears of War - "I suppose you want me to say that I really love you. I don't. I really, really don't."
Tony Stark - The only thing I like about him is that he is everything what hippies hate.
Azula - How could a kid be so evil?

I liked Zuko from pretty much the very start, simply because his relationship with Uncle Iroh always stood out to me as one of the best relationships of any T.V I've watched.
Also THE GREAT AND POWERFUL Trixie, because I like how she talks in the third-person. And has a cool hat.

Midna from The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess. She spends the first half of the game being a complete tool, yet she manages to become nicer as the game goes on. It helps that she takes part in some of the funnier scenes in the game.

A lot of the time they're just a lot more interesting. I mean just look at Vegeta and Goku. Goku is just a happy-go-lucky guy who likes to fight for the fun of it and to improve himself, whereas Vegeta has an obsessional need to be the best to the point of compulsion and the fact that Goku is better than him kills him inside. That seems far more interesting IMO.

Not to mention that Vegeta is a straight up badass who doesn't give a fuck what others think.

Those are the kinds I prefer. Deadpool mainly because I find him funny.

Most of the assholes I like are actually relatable. See Malcolm Reynolds and Hank Moody for examples.

I tend to like asshole characters. I don?t know why. I guess they tend to be more interesting than nice guy types and watching them be assholes is often entertaining. Of course this doesn?t mean I like dealing with assholes in real life.

Malcolm Reynolds is not an asshole. He is highly protective of his crew and believes strongly in his convictions. That doesn't make him a dick.

I recently watched the movie Hesher. Not a particularly great one however, the eponymous character (played by JGL) is pretty damn awesome. He is the definition of an asshole, made worse by the fact that he doesn't care about anyone or anything.

Case in point:

I loved Spike from Buffy in the earlier seasons where he was compelled to hang with the rest of the cast for various story related reasons despite the fact that he hated them and if given the chance would stab them in the back, and they would always get mad at him and he would just be like "you keep forgetting, I hate you." And then how in the later seasons they tried to turn him into a love interest and he lost all his edge and was bland as could be and the whole show was kind of terrible at that point. Anyway, for like two seasons, Spike was the best
