Ass-hole characters, why do you like them?

Most of the assholes I like are actually relatable. See Malcolm Reynolds and Hank Moody for examples.

Malcolm Reynolds is not an asshole. He is highly protective of his crew and believes strongly in his convictions. That doesn't make him a dick.

I never said there were those things that made him a dick, or that "a dick" is the only noticeable character trait he has. He's a complex character, and a part of his character includes him acting like an asshole on several occasions.

eh...I usually can't stand asshole charachters, unless they work (whatever that means)

actually scratch that..for some reason its "womanizing" charachters I can't stand


I guess my favorite would be Herr Starr from the Preacher series, (perhaps it helps that he's the villan so Im not suposed to be rooting for him) he his a monster...but its also hilarious the amount of crap the universe puts him through

my favorite part is where he is in an airport on the exit line and this old lady his slowing plodding along in front of him..blocking the way

he ends up chasing her screaming at her to move...while his assistant covers it up "were filming a movie..thats Patrick Stewart!"

Cartman, Barney, Dr. Cox, Dr. Kelso, you like them because they are facinating, hilarious, and they mess with people.
Its fun to mess with people.

It's a cliché but I think most folk like them because they can act the way people only dream of acting. I'd love to act like House but I can't because society doesn't really allow it. These characters would not be so cool in real life.

So... thinking about it, the way other characters react is a big part of why we like them so much.

OT: Well, I only really like the asshole characters if they're the protagonist, because then their asshole-ism is channeled into humor for me. If it's a side character/bad guy, they just piss me off.

Kefka. Basically fits the textbook definition of narcissist asshole, yet at the same time he provides a bit of comic relief and a lot of energy and colour (not just his outfit ) to the game.

Honestly if they had used another generic warlock/dark knight type character like they had the last 5 games instead of that hyperactive whackjob clown, Final Fantasy 6 would not have been nearly as fun or memorable.
