A quick warning, this will contain spoilers pertaining to Assassin's Creed and it's ending.
I'd bet my money that Assassin's Creed 2 will be placed in a Mayan setting more than anything. There is more things to do with Mayan culture more than anything, Quetzalcoatl(which was misspelled in the game) was the biggest hint. There was also a set of numbers, 12212012; which anybody who has taken a decent history class would know is 21 of December in 2012. It's a very important date, for it marks the 'end of the world as we know it'. The ancient Mayan civilizations used the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar and a significant event is supposed to take place. In Assassin's Creed this event is obvious, and it also tells us when the game takes place. Reading through Vidic's emails you'll see that Abstergo must 'launch' on the 21st of December. It is safe, then, to say that the 'present day' antics take place in September 2012, and that Abstergo wish to launch the satellite on 12/12/2012 to begin the new era in control of mankind.
And finally, Mayans are well known for their pyramids; but so is Egypt. So I might have just wasted far too much time putting into this. But, if I'm right-- this is proof that I may say, I told you so.
***Spoilers may be ahead***
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed that. The "end of the world" date is 3 months away in gametime. And that is also when this company that kidnapped Desmond is launching some satalite.
Now for my comments on AC...
I loved AC. I thought it was a great game... a great game with some issues. The side quests are way to repetative. They should have had more unique side quests for each assassination in order to gain your intel. Maybe a little B&E inplace of all the pickpocket. Instead of sitting on a bench to easedrop, maybe you have to breakinto thier house or a tavern and wait for them to come to you (once you learn their dialy paterns). And I agree with most of you that for a stealty assassin, you killed enough guards to end the cursades yourself. Out of the 9 assassinations, I only had one where I killed the guy and didn't alert the guards right away. It was the guy on the boat. Climbed up the side of the boat, waited for him to turn around and stabbed him in the back. The guards on the boat never saw me. I only got noticed when I got back on the pier. And why not add night time to the game. If you are wanting to be stealthy, night time is the right time.
I thought the story line was great, compelling. I wanted to see how it would end. And as far as the rants about adding the Sci-Fi element (the animus), I think it is briliant. This would allow you to have a sequeal any damn place you want. It opens up so many doors for storytelling. Imagine a story line that could jump around the globe and through time in search of the "artifacts". You could go back to the Philidelphia experiment or to Russia and the Tunguska event. I think placing your gameplay in the modern element is a waste of time. The Animus is where the game can really shine; reproducing other historical areas. And hell, get Lucy in the Animus. She is an Assassin, I'm sure her heritage has some link to the Pieces of Eden.
As much as I like the game, I am most upset by how much it didn't do. It really does have a lot of potential and I hope the sequal will do what a video game sequal should do. Keep the good stuff, and improve where needed. Don't completely reinvent the wheel, just make the wheel better.
