As someone who very much disliked Black Flag, I'm very excited for the series returning to parkour on large historical buildings in grand cities.
I'm not excited about this turning into a yearly installment, it just means the games will be shorter and shallower, I guess my dream for another AC II or Brotherhood is still not going to come true, but at least it won't be set in a time as unfitting as III or BF in my opinion.

So like, does Ubisoft have four simultaneous assassins creed games in production at all times? They say it has been in production for three years, and they have said something similar about earlier ones. Yet they are released once a year..

Seems tiresome.

I cannot understand how people can still be exited about a new AC game. I gave the Black Flag a chance, because of the free roaming pirate's life, but could not bring me to finish the first "follow these guys over the roof tops"-mission in the very first town. The worst 40? I've spent on Steam, counting the games that did not work because of hardware issues. I cannot see the french setting bringing anything to this franchise... But since it makes money, why kill a cash cow?

"in the style of AC3-style" ?

Redundant redundancy is redundant.
"A la" literally translates to "has the" or "with the", so Dragonlayer is using it correctly. Colloquially it can sometimes be used as "as with".

"A la mode translates to "has the style/with the style"

Sorry, man. Spent too much time studying that damn language (and working for a French company) not to chime in.

On topic, I was sure Ubisoft was going to churn out a couple more chapters in the Edward Kenway saga. But I guess they didn't think he was as likable as Ezio.

Probably because he wasn't. Anyway...the game might have potential.

What? Who wanted France? Why don't they set it in Russia or Germany? Japan? Victorian England?

I mean, seriously now.
Isn't Ubisoft from Montreal?
Maybe that had something to do with it.

I agree with you,
Any interest i would of had has been killed by it being in France.
Oh well, maybe next time.

The people who were polled.

Some fans got to take part in a survey about 18 months ago (if memory serves me correctly) France during the revolution was a popular choice along with Japan and Victorian England

No, it's not that. It's just this is the second time Ubisoft has decided on a locale I really don't agree with at all. The first one being Renaissance Italy. (*GASP* Blasphemy!) Though I do have the support of Yahtzee on that count.

Yahtzee said:
About the only important things Italy ever did were the Renaissance and murdering Jesus. Deicide and a whole bunch of painters running around being gay.

I hope everyone speaks french in this one. It would be nice to have some huge indoor locations to explore like the Notre-Dame or Versailles.

Ubisoft, obviously. Care to take a guess as to where the company is from?

Plus, the French Revolution is a historical event of great importance, so the choice is justified.

OT: I'm... oddly glad to see a return to "european city ripe for parkour". But then that's probably because I haven't finished an AC game since AC2; I'm not burnt-out on it yet.
Ah.

Well, looks like I need to go back to English school....

Nice to see the new Assassin is a sans-culottes -- to be expected of course, although, there are too many people wearing trousers, not enough bourgeoisie and bourgeoisie-supporters shown in what's shown thus far. I wonder if they're going to go for the bastardized version of history like in ACII where Rodrigo Borgia was the tyrant pope, see: Man in The Iron Mask version Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette version of, well, Marie Antoinette or if they'll they'll go the historically accurate route seen in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. It'll certainly be interesting to hear Ubisoft's version of what really happened, that being Louis passing laws that benefited the poor over the rich in an attempt to end what was essentially great poverty and famine and finally end the 7 years war that plagued his inheritance by finally defeating England.

Louis loved his people and wanted to good for them, he reinstated the parlements ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parlement ), passed the "Edict of Versailles", basically saying no can be prosecuted/executed for their choice in religions.
"It granted non-Catholics - Calvinist Huguenots, Lutherans, as well as Jews - civil and legal status in France, and gave them the right to openly practice their faiths" - wiki.
Shame he managed to piss off the bourgeoisie so much, as well as being soft-spoken and indecisive therefore appearing weak, or he may have gone down as a greater leader than his grandfather.

Needless to say, I can't wait to storm the Bastille.

I don't think that quote means what you think it means, dear OP.

OT: I'm really happy that they're finally visiting something of historical importance again. Let's hope it can grasp the charm of the older AC titles again.

Sorry man, but French is my first language and I have to tell you that your studies don't seem to have left you with a very firm grasp on the language... I certainly wouldn't let you translate a mission-critical memo, lest you piss off some important people with a mistranslation...

...Delightful, isn't it?
Vous gagnez ce tour, Monsieur The'!

Okay, how would I say "I got served" in French?

Yeah...I knew this was going to bite me in the ass. Should have probably checked your profile to make sure I wasn't arguing with someone from a French speaking country.

But I didn't and soldiered on anyway. So that'll teach me.

Honestly, it's been about 15 years since I've had to speak French. Though when I did, I managed to get around Paris, Pau and Bordeaux without pissing off too many people (at least, not because of mistranslation!)

I do remember "a la" being a contraction for something. Though my hazy memory recalled it being a short form of "a la mode" and not a la manier de".

Anyway, in all sincerity, I appreciate the refresher in both French and humilty.

A prochaine...

They are, partially.

I find that relatively unlikely to be a major aspect, considering that Quebecois tend not to have as smooth a relationship with France as one might think. They care about France in a similar way that the US cares about Britain, but considers themselves separate.

Though I would say so about Canada as a whole, as our education systems put far more emphasis on the French Revolution and European history in general than American schools do.

Having studied the revolution quite a bit, I think it is a far more effective period than the American Revolution when it comes to an Assassin's Creed story. There is far more moral ambiguity in it and the lack of the racial themes present in AC3 I think better fit AC.

The French Revolution brought down the oppressive reign of the monarchy, but the results were far from positive. It would do well to highlight that the assassins' freedom seeking methods are far from flawless. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the protagonist is a Templar working against the revolution and the ensuing reign of terror. It would be the perfect time for such a thing.

Different revolution (also fictional, but I assume you know that...).
