The assumption that casual gamers are morons really pisses me off

If you think that that isn't an assumption, look at the poll options on the thread about the escapists favorite games

People who assume any metal with screaming in it is "screamo". It's not. (Nu-metal, deathcore, death metal, thrash, metalcore... There's hundreds of genres in which there's screaming, but there's a difference between. A big one. Screamo is more like Senses Fail than Disturbed, Slayer, Beneath the Sky, All Shall Perish, Slipknot, Whitechapel, Winds of Plague... I argue this point with my sister all the time when she gets on my case for listening to screamo (usually Slipknot).)

People who assume doing metal vocals are easy. They're not. (To expand, I've found my throat bleeding from the screaming and growling.)

People who assume my girlfriend is fake because she lives in another state. (I'm in Texas now, and I've seen her twice. Yes, she's awesome. Sadly, I have to go back to Ass End Of Nowheresville, Illinois in about 5 days.)

People who assume I'm a delinquient because I say I listen to metal or am in a metal band. And people who assume I'm a fetus-eating satan-monster for the same reason (I got that from a discussion with the lead guitar of the band who drew me as a devil eating a fetus... don't ask, it's far too disturbing).

People who assume because I like metal, I'm officially unable to step inside a church without bursting into flames.

And the list goes on...
This is so freaking true. I hate the word 'screamo', but I have to use it to explain it to people sometimes. :/
I have this conversation almost everyday:
'So, what's wrong with screaming?'
'It's all crap. They're just yelling!'
'No, it's an extremely hard way of projecting your voice which some people take years perfecting.'
'HERP DERP I DON'T CARE IT'S JUST YELLING HERP DERP!'
I know exactly what you mean about the girlfriend thing. My girlfriend lives in about an hours car trip away from me (I feel sorry about the fact you live soo far away. It's hard enough just being a bus trip apart). Everyone seems to believe I'm lying about it.

I hate to be a dick over this but if something is unprovable then it really does mean that it has no arguing point. It will always be dismissed as irresolvable and unknowable. It doesn't mean "it doesn't exist" part though. Otherwise I agree with you.

As for mine. The assumption of reverse-ageism is painful to put up with. My roommate's former wife was sick since her late 20s with a severe case of pseudotumor cerebri and for some reason every service she applied for such as having her mail delivered to her door was denied because quote "You're too young to be that sick." My roommate also is handicapped and in his early 40s. We've had elderly people shout at him for taking "their" spaces many times now, while he was walking with his cane.

Not even, FFVI was bout Terra, the lady child of an esper and a human, and as such the only person to naturally be able to use magic.
The spiky-haired protagonist was basically ff7 and a few others.

Baha! I used to be a ginger, but my hair has grown brown over the years. I'm glad it was basically brown by the time that joke began. People still pick on me about my freckles/pale skin, though.

I hate how people assume metal isn't for them at all. If, for instance, I go to a gig with bands I like, I always have to go with the few people I know who are into it or by myself because everyone is so closed-minded to the idea of even lisening to it.
And mentioning stuff like moshing (which I enjoy, it's fun) is the worst idea because it - frankly - scares the shit out of them. I mean, if you're not into it - fine. But don't critisize until you've tried it.

About me? My eyes are usually red. People assume I'm high or tired when I'm neither.

But if given a chance to grandstand here's what bugs me most: 99% of people that accuse others of hypocrisy. To believe something is right and not personally follow through on it does not make your argument invalid. In our time hypocrisy has become the greatest sin, when really it's quite minor. To attack a person's ideals because they don't live up to them makes you look like a complete dumbass.

I'm an atheist, so a lot of times I get crap like "You are immoral. You don't care about people. Why would anyone who is an atheist do anything nice." You get the picture. These people don't realize that I do care about people. I'm a firefighter/paramedic. I live for this job and I love being there when people need someone most. I like helping my community and being a role model. I like going to schools and teaching kids about what to do in an emergency. I have seen the best and worst of people. I try to make my little part of this earth a little better. Maybe it is because I believe this is the only chance we get and there isn't anything else out there where we get some form of paradise. Most of the atheist I know have this same attitude.

I've never had that, problem, honestly. I think I may actually be a bit guilty in that area.
I mean, I know what I want to do - IT. I hope that'll lead to some more creative areas so I can use my writing skills. Maybe game story development, or something. That would be nice.
I'm not entirely sure, honestly, but I have an idea of what I'd like to do.
It sorta confuses me when someone has no idea of what they enjoy and/or what kind of job they'd be interested in.

The assumption that because I'm an educated middle-class white Englishman, I must be an effete Hugh Grant-a-like and unable to punch my way out of a wet paper bag.

The assumption that because I enjoy RPGs (both video games and pen & paper) that I'm an amorphous fat blob with a neck-beard and no social graces who couldn't find his dick without a mirror.

The assumption that Arab=Muslim=Terrorist. While the BBC were still refusing to speculate, SKY and FOX were calling the tragedy in Norway "Islamist/Al Qaeda related"

Generally, assumptions based on racial stereotypes.

!BUT ALSO!

The assumption that anyone who discusses race and sexuality is automatically racist and homophobic.

That having a haircut involving clippers as opposed to scissors somehow indicates right-wing leanings, as opposed to a desire for low maintenance style.

I hate when you tell people you don't go out to parties/bars/clubs and they instantly assume you're some antisocial shut-in. Apparently, parties/bars/clubs are the only hobbies that exist in life.

Here's another dumbass assumption I've come across in a conversation with someone I know (paraphrased)

Him: You like rap music?
Me: Not really.
Him: You listen to Linkin Park?
Me: No.
Him: So what do you listen to then? Grandma music?

There you have it. According to him, there are 3 kinds of music in the world: rap, Linkin Park, and "grandma music"

I hate it when people assume that I'm trying to lay the blame on something/someone else for something that Went wrong in my life. I mention I have aspergers in a relevant conversation=people start assuming I'm trying to lay the blame on that. I mention, even jokingly, my distaste at my permanent lack of a girlfriend, I'm supposedly suddenly blaming it on every female who ever lived. I complain about the job market, and of course, people instantly say I'm looking for an excuse not to improve my employability.

The opposite is true. I am the first person I look to blame. Only when I can't possibly fathom why it could be my fault do I look elsewhere for the cause. I'm not a pitiful excuse for a human being because I'm mildly autistic, I'm a pitiful excuse for a human being because I'm a pitiful excuse for a human being. I am not blaming women for not being attracted to me, they'd have to be both insane and blind to be attracted to me. I don't have a job because I am s*** at most things.

But I suppose that would be the self pitying response, huh? I can never. F***ing. Win. I have no pity for myself, every time I make a mistake, I punish myself for it. If I make a mistake while working, I don't sleep or eat until I fix the error. I make a mistake involving a girl, I don't get to see her anymore (I make a mistake, she won't want to see me. She's happy, and I get the punishment I deserve) any other mistakes, I bite myself, in the arm, as hard as I feel I deserve.

I blame myself, I punish myself. I do not blame others, because I may be a just plain "wrong" person in every way, but I am not enough of a coward to blame others for my s*** and allow my mistakes to be unpunished. It is the only way I will learn. I know the world around me has alot wrong with it, but if I don't force myself to become a better person, then I'm just a hypocrit.

So I'd be lying if I said I blamed others, but I'd be "emo" if I told people the truth. So I just sit there silent. Gritting my teeth, not sure who I'm more angry at, the assum-er or myself. There you have it. You read through that, have a cookie, if you hate me now, well, I've been trying to suppress that rant for three days, so, sorry, I guess.
Very well written. I like your way of thinking.

Cheers mate! I'm vocals in a metal band, and I write stuff for the band. We're not really too deep in the scene yet. (Last practice, the guitarist smashed his guitar against the wall and yelled "FUCKIN' METAL!", so we can't practice much.)

I do like writing and metal (but you guessed the second one, heh). It's not really what I enjoy that I'm lost on, or my future job (Vocals/writer). It's school. I have no clue where I want to go to college, and I'm a senior in high school.

I like Halo.
Hence I must be an undereducated, obnoxious, drunken fratboy who yells 'dude' all the time and makes racist remarks in my squeaking voice on online matches and must only like games like Halo and Madden.
That one really pisses me off.

I support feminism
Doesn't mean I want to chop off men's balls. Just because I support one thing does not mean I automatically revile something else.

Ashley (Mass Effect) has trust issues with aliens
Does not mean that she is some kind of redneck neo nazi conservative who deserves to die for it. She has a lot more depth then people give her credit for.

I don't like the level of dumb offensive humor in things like Duke Nukem Forever
Hence I must just be a pretentious toolbag who would only like something if it's 'arty'.

I'm an athiest
Therefore I must hate all people of all faith.

These ones all continue to annoy me.
