Atlus' New Catherine Screens Tease and Titillate

Well, I haven't actually played the game but "NOTICE THE KARMA METER!" is just an annotation a Youtube user added.

I don't know if Catherine will turn out to be evil or what, but right now it just looks like it's showing whose side you're on (Catherine or Katherine).

Neither are very interesting answers. They're both much too extreme.

But that is a karma meter. The Japanese demo shows more clearly that it's adorned with a devil in livid red and a cherub in serene blue. "Marriage is the start of life" gave Vincent one tick to the cherub side, telling us that this is the good/correct answer. Doesn't seem to leave much room for the player to really think about this.

And it seems kind of obvious that Catherine is some kind of supernatural beasty. She's kind of weird and there's been a series of murders. Makes me think she's a succubus or something.

It's a shame that it's so clear-cut, then. Reminiscent of 'SOCIAL LINK UP!', in a way.

I have to assume there's something more to the Catherine route than her simply being evil, though. I don't dare to actually check plot synopses for fear of spoilers, but that seems kind of simplistic (yes yes, so does the karma meter, point taken).

Besides, they aren't murders, people are just dying in their sleep. Completely unrelated, I'm sure. Happens all the time.

You're trusting the advertising to paint an accurate portrait of the game? This is a mistake.

If the developers want to sell a mature game that presents mature themes then they should advertise it as such. It can still wind up being such a thing, but so far it seems the developers are more concerned with tits than with presenting sexual themes in a mature fashion.

The two are not the same thing.

Atlus USA is advertising a game. It's new for them too.

Trust me when I say that there's much more content than you can get at a first glance from an Atlus game.

Besides a bit of basic platforming, what part of this constitutes a "game"?

Seriously, all the news stories and whatnot about this game, and I still have no idea what it is exactly. Is it a platformer? RPG? What? Somebody please explain.

If everybody else is just as in the dark as I am, how come there is so much excitement for this game? Are people just immediately ready to shell out money because it's Atlus?

Social sim by day, puzzle-platformer by night. About the best summary I can give. And it isn't because it is Atlus, it is because it's the Persona team.

Hmm. Well after that, I think if I played this game, I'd have to go after the blonde. If that's how it even works. I really need to do my research about this game.

Based mostly on looks, I prefer the "-atherine" with a K. Why do I get a feeling there will be differing endings depending on which one you make Vincent choose?

I am quite pleased that I own a 360.

Why? I own a 360 but I much prefer the PS3 box art, still hoping that they've made it reversible with the other cover on the other side...

What, a quality Japanese release that is actually getting translated (or at least subbed) and published overseas... I'm shocked. If this is anywhere near as long as the last few, that is an incredible effort.
