I'm the same as that. But I got some crazy feeling someone is gonna hack into it many times until they either just get rid of it, or they delete the internet for all AustraliansCahlee said:I'm for Australia and this frightens me. It's ridiculous and unnecessary!
Not trying to be an ass here but a piece of advice from me. Don't. If you think internet cap's bad in america. Just wait till you see the cap in aus. Not a single one of my aussie friends have an unlimited internet connection. Not one. THey have like 10gigs or 20gigs limit. So basically, you cant watch videos, you cant download stuff. And if you play a game like WoW. One of those 2 gig patches will kill your connection.forever saturday said:well my cousin told me about that, and they usually filter stuff thats illegal, things they think shouldnt be on the internet. it sucks because i actually want to move to australia when i grow up (im american now).
What the devil has Germany to do with this? You do realise that WW2 ended 60 years ago right? In the mean time it has been mostly a social democracy. If you want a country that is bordering fascism these days look to Denmark. We are getting shafted with regards to civil liberties all the time.Nurb said:Australia has surpassed germany in becoming a facist nanny-state where anything unpleasant is banned, censored and made illegal; games, books, movies, stories, you name it. Like the guy put in jail over simpsons porn cartoons, or the other guy who uploaded a russian father playing with his kid by swinging him around and it looked like 'abuse', so the Aussie was thrown in jail. Now they want to censor the internet.
Why aren't Australians doing anything? don't they vote? where's the outrage?
C. Lion is completely right, I've way too much of that heppening lately, but this post was a little off topic.C Lion said:I would say you should take some advice from your name and admit he's probably right. a) Judging by what you typed, you either didn't read my post or disragerded it.
b) you said 'that why we care' meaning that you think you know what australians think (including me) and, by commiting such a humongous act of generalization your argument lost all credability.
I said 'i'm australian, i don't care' then you said 'we're australian, blah blah, That's why we care.' As far as i'm concerned people with massively generalized, underinformed views like yours should be censored - not because i'm against freedom of speech, but because those kinds of opinions don't mean a thing and i'd rather not have to read them. Of course, you could have just refrained from needlesly quoting me...
anyway, people who think the australian government are going to start censoring sites to the extent of the Chinese government is short sighted and missing the point. There are hundreds of reasons why, but i'll just say one; that OMG-DUH, australia is not a single party state, there is no state censorship institution, and you have no reason to fear ideological censorship until we DO become a single party state. If that happens, then yeah that'd be a bummer, but i'll be living somewhere else by then so it's all good.
I say again - I WANT australia to ban games like gears of war - they're just crappy copies of halo with stupid amounts of blood thrown in - and to block all porn sites, limiting porn to megastores where only brave adults dare go, or something. Of course, won't happen. whatever.
governments in australia have no reason to censor things, their power isn't based in ideology and they'd never need to block sites.
all of that's just MY opinion. It's right, of course, but that doesn't mean i'm forcing it on you or anything, and i'm not using the word 'we' - maybe you should take a leaf out of my book.
The reason I am against the filter. We have horrible internet as it is.berethond said:The best of the filters will slow almost all internet connections by up to 86%!
I do feel sorry for your husband and the miners involved, and yes as an Australian I agree that there needs to be an un-PC look into the law to make them equal for everybody with no special favours.Anonymouse said:Oh I love australia. My sisters boyfriend works in the mines in western australia. Naturally when he gets time off he hits the pubs hard as mining towns have little else worth while.
So a few months ago there was a minor problem with a bunch of abbos that resulted in a full blown pub brawl with about 5 miners against 15+ abbos. My sisters husband tried to just break it up and get them off his mates and got attacked with weapons, pool sticks, pool balls, bottles, you get the idea. He got such a beating that he died and had to be revived, his friends suffered broken bones and a off duty waitress who just tried to stop things got a bar stool across the ribs shattering 3 of them and landing her in hospital for a few weeks.
Beautiful part is the law is soo shit over there and soo biased towards protecting the damn abbos that it was considered just a "bar fight" and no charges were pressed.
So hows that. You people cannot have decent games or check porn sites but can happily kill someone in a bar fight and walk away scot free.
