Sooo... is Australia like the continental version of Jack Thompson? I'm seeing a lot of anti-gaming news from that country recently so I'm wondering if everyone's favourite disbarred lawyer is moonlighting there.

Anyway, I'm hoping that the game gets a re-rating. I dislike this kind of censorship and wish that the people of Oz can take a break from the tyranny that they are currently suffering under. Viva La Gamer!

Okay, I have an honest question.

Why can't Aussies just order games from say, Ebay or Amazon.com if they can't buy them in Australia?
To the best of my knowledge, they can do exactly that.

Rebellion had better not back down. Sorry to my Aussie chums, but if Reb backs down and censors, Atkinson wins.
I have to agree with you. I dont want any of the 'censored' games not because they lack gore, as they can be fun anyway. But as a statement that I oppose the censorship in this country.

It would be such a shame if the game where to get banned considering they had no problem with the aliens film where countless marines get there heads bit off . So it`s ok to change a game but to try and change a film is to censor an art form .
True there.

I love how the Alien and Predator movies, with all kinds of blodd and guts, are prefectly acceptable in Australia, but not the friggin' game. WTF

I'm very glad the review board will take a second look, but I can't imagine it would fall under any other category than 18+ and banned.

I hope for all the aussies sake that the game will be approved because if it's anything like the previous games they will be missing out a lot.
It's stupid that games get sensored and rated like this. It's like putting a black bar in front of the David statue or nude paintings by Rubens.
Well nothing I can do about it but it's still unfair.

Good luck Aussies, may you clip a hole in the iron curtain of censorship.

I always thought that censorship was, for all intents and purposes, dead in the western world. Censorship must fall down under.

You're spot on. Not only does he win but nobody wants to spend their hard earned on a gimped version of the game, so the publisher loses also.

Please Australia, just give us the R rating. I'm really getting sick of getting the short end of the stick for every major release to come out here and I had been seriously looking forward to playing this game.
So to whatever video game gods are out there, I beseech the, please give us an R rating!!

I wonder what would happen if Rebellion held an Aussie-only "contest".

Entrance is $60 with half going to a charity and the other half going to a potenial "mystery" prize for the winners.

And then everyone wins, and when they recieve their prize, they find out its an uncensored verison of AvP.

What then Atkinson, what then?

It's a waste of time resubmitting it. I am completely against R rated games being banned, as most sane people would be, but if that game can get released as M15+ then there is something else horribly wrong with our classification system. (It won't, just saying..)
How would that be wrong?

AvP isn't that bad - certainly not compared to other things that Aussies have seen.

That, and it getting by would be a giant "FUCK YOU" to Atkinson, which the Down Under desperately needs more of. By the way, why isn't house regularly covered in eggs and toliet paper yet? Seriously, it doesn't looke like anyone is even trying over there.

P.S. Your avatar is awesome.

Australia: Aliens vs. Predator seems like it will have too much graphic violence- denied classification.

General Public: This game looks like it will be very profitable.

Australia: Well, maybe we should give it a second chance...

Well if it's banned in their country, I assume it's illegal.
Okay, that's what I was unsure of. I didn't know if it was illegal to sell, or illegal to own.

Everyone here knows that the average age of gamers over here is about 30; I don't know why the government doesn't get it.

The thing that annoys me most about this is that even New Zealand have a R18+ rating category for games. God, if they can get there act together what the hell is our problem!?!
im going to NZ to my gaming shoping then :D :D :D n hope i can sneak the games tru customs witheot Atkinson`s ninjas noticing :O

well, what else is Australia known for? TBH, they don't have much else going for them. Ask Community Channel or Zero Punctuation. At the moment, THEY are the only things Australia are known for.

I meant to quote this person...

Well alot of the kills are quite graphic and gruesome, and should not be played by a 15 year old unless their parents allow them to in their own home. I would love to be able to buy the game, so I admit I would be happy if it was let through as MA15+, but I still don't think it is suitable for that rating.

I agree that many games that are worse are let through, and probably shouldn't, this just further illustrates the fact that we do need an R rating. Again I would be disapointed if they would not of let these games through, but sometimes what we want and what should happen are different things.

That being said, lets bring on the AVP! I am just not holding my breath. Hopefully eventually we will get our R rating though, and along with it we will get our mature games, as well as protecting children from these games that may or may not be suitable for them, and informing parents properly.

P.S. Thankyou, I love Excel Saga, by far my favourite Anime.

I agree, i think Michael Atkinson needs to get a life, although personally i just think his EGO is sooooooo big, that he wants all the publicity he can get just to feed it. Plus he probably has never played a video or PC game in his life, either that or he wasn't allowed to, so now he wants to ruin it for everyone else.....What a horses a.... he is :)

Perhaps we gamers here in Aussie Land need to geta petition going, maybe if we get thousands of angry Gamers, something will happen, After all, "Power to the People"
