I'm going to see it in 3D on Thursday. I must admit, I am sceptical about it living up to the hype.

If you read the article "Avatar" is really only the 26th highest grossing film with inflation taken into account, and "Titanic" still sold more tickets. "Avatar"s numbers are artificially inflated because of the extra cost for 3D. I'm not surprised it's sold so many tickets at this point though.

YES!

Finally, something beat Titanic!
Slightly unfair that Cameron holds both spots one and two, isn't it?

He must be Bill Gates rich by now.
That's the thing; he holds the two highest grossing movies in history, but Bill is worth fifty-sixty times more than he is.

It really is interesting to see how much money goes into which forms of media, and it seems that in this case, movies are not looking so hot compared to electronics.

But in any case, graztz to Cameron. I wonder how long Avatar will hold this record for.

EDIT: The 26th and 27th highest grossing? I'm pretty damn confused right now. Stupid article.

Finally something kicked Titanic of it's love-stenched throne.

I will say I am not surprised by this. I just wonder how long Avatar will continue to climb the charts until it finally shows signs of stopping.

I actually never watched Titanic. My GF tried talking me into it, and I said I'd do it, once she watched all 6 episodes of Star Wars with me. I call it "The mighty shield of Lucas" and it still protects me from Titanic and comparable films! ^^

Despite all that... I like Cameron (well most of his movies). So happy Cash Flow to you, Sir!

If you read the article; it says it isn't the highest grossing film of all time... It's Gone With the Wind.

Anyway, congrats to the PR-guys, I guess...
ummm it only beats it if you adjust the money for inflation and other such things. so even Gone With The Wind is the highest grossing of all time only by PR as well

What if Titanic and Avatar are actually part of a trilogy? The final film being about a luxury cruise spaceship that hits an asteroid on the way to Pandora. That should fill some seats.

Why? Titanic is probably one of the greatest pieces of cinema of all time. And this is coming from a male.

Is there some reason for why so many people don't like Titanic? Or are they just dismissing it because it has romance in it?
Hmm... I guess I just dislike

- (Most) Sad Romances (you'll get enough of those in real life)
- Leonardo Dicaprio (in this specific role at that time)
- Cruise Ships (They make me sea sick ^^)
