AVP Multiplayer Discussion.

So as a fan of FPS, Aliens & Predator (Only in the regards of seeing him squirm in agony). I've decided to pick up the demo off Steam and see what the gameplay is like.


From the couple of days I've been playing, I feel that it's a fairly solid demo but it has a few little annoyances that detract from the experiance.
The aliens transition is one thing that stands out to me, jumping from wall to wall is incredibly fun and useful, however the camera and the blur feature makes it confusing at times.
Several times I've been coming up behind someone and found myself staring at a wall or looking the other way.
Auto Transition also makes me cry.

Marines also move waaaaay to slow, if you can play Marines then props to you guys. I royally suck at it.

Are there any Escapists out there who also tried it out?

Loved the 2nd and the expanson pack. Played the Marine on my first try and totally dominated even without knowing the controls. My 2nd time I played the predator in a all marine game (only three of us LOL). I actually felt like a predator as I snuck up on the two marine over and over again and let them have a taste of the plamasa caster. Great demo but if I want multiplayer I'll play Halo 3, I truly can't wait for the campaign. I hope it's as good as the 2nd with all the little clues you can pick up along the way.

I find Aliens to be a little lacking, too dependant on stealth yet every step you take (even when walking) pretty much gives you away.
I love sneaking up on people only to have them turn around and pump me full of lead before I can get near.

I got the demo for the ps3, but ive only been able to get into one game, just cant seem to get into groups. i was playing as marines for the game i got, and i thought it was pretty good, although the aliens seemed far too easy too kill

I usually crawl on the ceilings, destroy the lights with my tail, and hopefully get close enough to hit my opponent with my tail. After that, there is a very quick moment where you can press E and insta-kill them.
Either that, or I've just been playing with people who aren't very good.

Yeah, I've been trying similar stuff but people always see me, hear me whatever.
Even though I've been bouncing around from place to place til i can get behind them and grab them.

Damn good fun though.

If you're playing on Steam fling me a PM and we can get some team stuff going, that also applies to anyone who reads this thread.

I'm looking forward to the other game modes, I'd like to see what can be achieved with the setting.

releasing the demo as free for all mode was a mistake imo, the other modes (particularly team and co-op modes) will be far more fun.

playing as a marine.. anyone else agree the atmosphere is spot on? the audio is terrific.

I'm playing steam just so you know.

I kick ass as the Alien. Anyone who doesn't just doesn't know how to play it. There is a fair amount of skill involved with keeping orientation. You need to do the hit and run strategy.

I have to agree that only giving deathmatch was a mistake. To be good it needs some sort of teamwork so that strategies can emerge. I hope the quality of the end game sorts out the technical issues of the demo. Oh and PC better have dedicated servers.

I couldn't do anything as the Alien in the first two, but this game redeems it. I agree, the Marine seems to be stuck in sap but it adds to the fear effect.

Ya, well you can't argue with the results, plus I didn't want to edit any of the video. I got to admit I was surprised I actually got him. Lag was probably involved somewhere.

haha yeah, i can't use that scoped thing for shit, and the flamethrower seems useless.
i love how your viewpoint gets slapped around when you get hit - really makes you try to avoid incoming blows.

I had a go on live after being big into the other two. It seems a bit all over the place to me. I think it's totally down to not having it as species deathmatch and letting the everyone team up. It just doesn't work when aliens are killing each other.
I noticed some people just run along the floor right at you and no-one checks the ceilings thinking they can soak up pulse rifle rounds.

it'll be fun when people get into it and the game modes are open. The best part about the originals was that the newbies always picked the marine or aliens and were clueless and the veterans often played the Preds which was great when 1 guy could take out 5 twitchy guys (I was usually the twitchiest)

If the single player campaign was just a remake of the one in 2 I'd be happy, good story and great moments looking forward to this. Nice to have a FPS without iron sights.

I'm hoping it will be like Splinter Cell where it's just a small group of practiced and serious players. Because that's what made the original so good.

This Demo is fucking awesome.

The Marine gameplay has me jumping at every freaking sound. I unload half of my clip into the darkness whenever I'm in the hive section.

Playing as the alien is so different, but just as cool. One thing I don't like about them though, is that when I am trying to hit someone with my tail, half the time instead, it charges up an attack, and leaves me exposed.

Running on walls at high speeds? Fucking Brilliant.
