Panzer Dragoon Orta for the original Xbox was really great. Sounds like a silly Japanese game. It certainly is, but with a twist: it was made from the guys that gave you Jet Set Radio Future! The OST alone makes this game super awesome.

As a kid I always dreamed of the day I could save up the $100AUD to buy this game, because the demo was so good. This year I finally fulfilled that dream, but it turned out to be one of those games with limited (read: constant crashing) backwards compatibility on the Xbox 360. I am really pumped for Crimson Dragon though, the only reason I'm in for the Xbox One.
I didn't expect to be an unknown game in my opinion. Panzer Dragoon is a very well-known series to not know about it.

An unknown game of a well-known series would be like......a visual novel base the characters of the fighting game "Kings of Fighters" and other SNK characters:

or a shmup base of "Kings of Fighters"

You get the idea :)

For some reason I can not personally fathom, the Syberia series never got fame. I keep expecting it will have a resurgency, because other emotional stories like The Walking Dead and The Last of Us have become so huge. But I think the average gamer is doomed to walk the earth and not know that before these recent games with emotional stories, there were games that did it much better.

The Longest Journey too, but that actually did sell, in it's day. (And it's third installment is coming up)

Strange, but Syberia and Longest Journey were praised a lot in my opinion.
Sure, they are not well-known NOW, but when they came out, I am pretty sure they had an important spotlight to the adventure fans.

To adventure fans maybe. But Syberia is a game I consider mandatory for any gamer, not just fans of a genre. It was that good. And adventure games have become a lot more popular since then, but few of the new adventure fans go back and see what happened a few years ago, except for really obvious games like Grim Fandango and Monkey Island.

Ah right. I guess I'm just used to recommending to people around my age (20). Most of my peers never heard of the franchise or Orta, and I've always thought of it as an obscure title. To be fair I only know about it because I was a stickler for demos back then, the game was pretty poorly marketed over here.

But I'll try to salvage my credibility while I can :p Another fond original Xbox game I enjoyed was Phantom Crash. It was a mech game with a lot of customisable options and I don't think it was well known. Australia's Official Xbox Magazine gave it a great review, I don't know if you have an original Xbox lying around but that could be worth a look-in.

edit: I'm also reminded of Nexus: the Jupiter Incident and I-War for some reason! Both are PC games set in space involving huge space ships if you're into that sort of thing.

Ya there's "unknown" to hardcore gamers, and then there's "unknown" to regular gamers. If it's not assassin's creed or metal gear solid they won't know what you're talking about.

And BTW that's kind of annoying, here's a massive list of games you should check out! None of which have any description beyond a random rating out of 10 from some bloke who may or may not have actually played it.

Yeah, I could do a search, but its such a massive list I bet there's a lot of crap in there. If you expect to grab people's interest you should probably do some of the work and give a short list of titles which you know of with some description.

One of the most recents is a completely under the radar game called Redshirt that plays like a Machiavellian psychopath simulator where you use social networking to advance in careers and leave everyone to die.

I have a game on the PS2 called "Shadows of Memory". It's a great game about time travel and I think that the mechanics of it are really surprisingly good. It's also known as "Shadows of Destiny" in America. It's not a very long game but I think the story is fantastic and I can't say much about it without giving away too much. I picked it up for 50p in CEX one day. It was well worth it.

Fair enough to think like that. However for this select only the games I believe they worth at least to play only once even it is only a demo. I played many unknown games that don't worth your attention. I put only the best.

For that reason also I selected my TOP 10 gaes from this lists if you can at least these specific ones [but not description, sorry too lazy for that]:

The White Chamber
No-One Has to Die
Jolly Rover
Save the Date!
7Days
Mr. Bree: Returning Home
The Cat Lady
Eryi's Action
Saya no Uta
Olav & the Lute

The truth is.......all the games are good.....of course this is my opinion only.

This remind I need to check the PC version if I can pick it up. Too lazy to connect my old PS2 again...

I'm not sure how unknown it is but Okage for the PS2 is a lighthearted silly action-adventure game I never heard other people talk about.

If anyone here has a DS, you should take a look at Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime. What other game lets you fight in four-story tall tanks that can fire boomerangs, ghostly bombs, scythes, and friggin' meteorites? Also, Elite Beat Agents, a bizarre, but very awesome rhythm game for the DS.

I know it's a cult classic, but Umihara Kawase needs more love. A fantastic platformer for the SNES with an excellent grappling hook mechanic (well, more like rubber fishing line, but you get the idea).

For me is the opposite for me:
I know the DS games you mentioned, but didn't knew the game "Umihara Kawase".
Cute protagonist.

To The Moon, easily one of the greatest stories in a game I have ever seen in my life. Not to mention beautiful music and great aesthetic design.

Also, Psychonauts. Its gained quite a following since its original release but still for one of the best games of its generation it has gotten far less attention than it deserves (and is on sale on the Humble Bundle store for $2 at the moment. GO. FUCKING. BUY. IT!)

Already done. I've known about the game for a while, but never really got around to getting it 'til now. Thanks much!

...aaand I've just realised like 2 people will play any of those games I just spent well over an hour listing :p Seriously, if you're reading this and you just skipped through it, just click on one of them at least. You might not regret it :D

If anyone's interested in other games like the ones listed above (mine and Shark's), check out freeindiegam.es [http://www.freeindiegam.es/] - there's a lot of weird experimental stuff on there which is very hit-and-miss, but it's worth a look. It's also updated every day or two, so keep a bookmark.

Also, how do I get ahold of Train [http://www.listal.com/game/train-3ds-virtual-console]? I played one of their other games, The Light [http://www.freeindiegam.es/2013/08/the-light-sergey-noskov/], and couldn't find it. Thanks!
Wait, The Stanley Parable was on there? *Checks again.* Huh. So it was. One of my favourite games of all time.

Edit: Wait, Immortall was on there? *Checks again.* Huh. So it was. Played it and loved it to bits. Where the fuck was ability to read yesterday?

No prob Bob :D I recommend playing with a controller if you have one, my 360 controller seemed to fit the game better than Mouse and Keyboard (which is weird cause I usually love M&K) but either way you'll have a blast. There is nothing else quite like it.
