I think it's something to do with the fact that humans are hairless creatures and fluffy animals arn't. Asa poster pointed out, shave a kitten and they look disgusting.

Oh, also

I have a feeling nobody here has kids. Once (if) you have one your feelings will change. Looks have little to do with their cuteness, it's the way they develop so quickly and establish their personalities. They learn so fast it's amazing.

Also, kittens don't have the ability to look you in the eyes, smile super big and giggle non stop. Kittens are cute, but they don't have the same level of interaction.

Don't forget that one time you were a little chubby, pink, screaming blob as well. Helps you be more tolerant.

Babies imo aren't that bad,and it's different for instance you might not like someone else's kid but if you have a kid considering all the effort and trouble you'll probably think it's adorable at some point in time. It's actually a lot like making a sandwich if someone makes you a ham sandwich you could hate it,but if you spent the majority of a year making said sandwich you'd probably say it was the best sandwich you've ever eaten.

Seriously, even the cutest, happiest baby on the planet is still a drooling lump of fat in a thin, sickly-colored membrane of flesh topped with hastily-thrown-together hair. Baron Harkonnen is mildly less offensive to behold.

Know the sick thing? That dude was probably "such a beautiful baby boy" when he was just born.

THINK ABOUT THAT.

I bet they looked cuter when we still had hair all over, and just haven't had time to evolve to become cute. I also believe they're cuter to their parents, to whom it matters more.

I'd say strange, but still cute altogether. Though I'd love to see a Pei Mei-beard on this one.

Must have a reason the anchient Egyptians praised cats, not babies...

*Shudder*.. So much blood.
I watched that in primary school. It haunts me even to this day.

It really depends. When my little brother was born he looked really cute and stuff (until he puked and I was on nappy duty) but with other people's babies I thought of them as...well not very nice looking. Might be a chemical reaction or something to a new arrival in the family.

Well, we breed cats/dogs to look cute. And by evolution we are made to think babies are cute, because if we didn't, why would we care about them, thus are species would die off. Well we would still care but not as much.

I completely agree but usually attract strange looks when I state this opinion so I usually refrain from doing so unless its an audience that says something similar first. I really don't like babies, toddlers are ok, at least they can talk and interact and do funny things, but babies just scream and cry and poop and god help you if you're sitting near one in a confined space. I can't understand how a parent can put up for that for months on end. The trouble is, if you're a female, people tend to think you always want to hold their babies, and so they give them to you to hold, which is usually fairly uncomfortable. Fortunately my mum / sisters are usually nearby to palm it off to, who will go and croon over it. Baby animals on the other hand are the complete opposite, people need to drag me away from them.

I don't have kids, but my sister was born when I was 15, so I think I understand some of the feelings there. All babies get to cute at some point between 2 weeks and a year, and watching a small child grow and learn at a phenomenal rate is amazing from an emotional perspective, especially if you had some part in it.
However, as a 4 year old, there is no more annoying force on this planet than her, except maybe microphone users on MW2.

Puppies are also awesome. But still aren't cute until a couple of days after birth. Although if you get a puppy (6-8 weeks after it's been born), I can verify that they do have the ability to look you in the eyes, smile/wag super big, and eat your shoes non-stop. Not quite the same as a baby, but close.

I think babies are great with a side of potatoes.

OT: I'm guessing it's the fur.

Here are probably the most adorable baby animals in the entirety of this thread.

Now imagine hundreds of those (egg sacs can have hundreds of eggs) crawling all over you.
