So, fellow escapists, what will be something that you will probably ramble on about to those crazy kids when you're old.
Read half of my posts and decide for yourself. :)

I find it frightening that game history isn't taught better. Do any of the teens actually understand playing a game on tape? I mean Ocean : Ultimate: Play The Game now Rare had some wonderful skills in creating loading screens.

And for a moment of reverie

Younger viewers may want to hold their ears, Older viewers may want to get a hankie.

Back in my day, gaming used to be about having fun. Now it's whether or not it's "hardcore"
And graphics. Always those damned graphics. And online! Everything must be online! The single player experience is no longer a focus!

Anyways, back in my day, TV and music didn't suck so much.

I remember a day when phones were used for calling people. Nope, now I can call someone, text them, send them a video I made ON THE PHONE, do my taxes, make a sandwich, jump-start my car, find the nearest diner, and run a small country FROM MY DAMN PHONE.
it's only funny because you can do all of those things.
Sweet! There's a phone that can jump-start my car and make me a sandwich? How did I miss that?

What? Oh, right... *clears throat, starts coughing, mumbles to self "Yes, that's the old man voice I was looking for..."*

Uphill, kids. Both ways.
In the snow.
Of course, back then, snow was steam-powered.
But, of course the snow had to be steam powered because there was a depression on at the time, you see. Why, for a nickel, you could take the whole family into town on the trolley, catch a double picture at the the-a-ter, go out for a steak dinner, and pick up a used Buick to drive back home. Do they even have nickels anymo- Hey! Git back here! I ain't done talking to you yet, boy!

On topic (finally): I remember when Sonic was good. Not just games, everything. Comics, TV shows (who knew there was a good use for Urkel?), even the obviously licensed money-making crap was good!

*hugging my stuffed Sonic because none of you can see me*

Now, where did my phone go? I'm hungry, and my car's dead.

"The great thing about the iPhone is that if you want to jump-start your car and have a sandwich at the same time, there's an ap for that."

When I originally responded to that I read "start" my car rather that "jump-start" which would be much simpler and I do suppose you could make some sort of sandwich making machine and put a phone in it. The portability might be a little hindered.

I remember when we would hop on them internetz and be heralded by the banshee known as the dial-up tone. We didn't have yer fancy pants micro computers with yer lightning fast 100 terrabytes per second. We searched the good ol' fashioned way with patience and perseverance.

[/oldman]
I memorised my dial-tone....

Actually, I kind of miss the old AOL dial-up. Yes, it was annoying, but we got used to it. It became almost a friend.

Almost...

Part of the family.

Like a puppy that constantly barks, but you still love.

Well there really isn't a back in the day for me yet, but I do remember the good cartoons that were on such as Dexters Labritory and Animaniacs.

Though not old enough to warrant an old man's voice I do remember memories of that damned AOL dial up tone, and bits of B:TAT and pinky and the brain though not much other cartoons. My oldest console was a Sega Mastersystem that came out in 1985 according to Wikipedia so I can at least give my self a cane.

I remember Rugrats when Tommy still had a red shirt. I remember Smurfs, Popeye, Flinstones, Jetsons, Ren & Stimpy and the most bitchin opening theme of the 90s, Go Go Power Rangers!

I remember the days when kids played outside, because the original Gameboy was a creature of myth and your household computer was for WORK and for your dad to mess around with DOS on. I remember when you were allowed to play bullrush at school and a meat pie was considered a nutritious lunch. I remember when TV broadcasting stopped at midnight and Goodnight Kiwi went to sleep in his satellite dish. I remember when the combination of leggings and baggy t-shirts was cool for the first time around. I remember when telephones had that circular dialling thingy and you could actually buy something for 10 cents...

I feel old =P

I remember when everyone bitched about the 90's, now everyone wishes the 90's never ended.
I am old enough to wish the 90's never started, and when I grew up we had a movie star for a president

Oh the internet where sheer luxury, back in my day we didn't even have the internet or fancy computers, you'd get your news off of dodgy men in the street and gather round with your friends trying to guess cheat codes for games and secrets we'd all found. Ahhh but we were happy.

I remember when toys actually came in the cereal boxes. Now you send in the box top with money for shipping and handling. WTF?

This may be just me, but I remember Hostess cupcakes tasting freaking fantastic when I was a kid. I tried one recently and just spit it out, cause it was so awful and chemical tasting.

I remember when a box of Tim Bits cost a toonie.
And it cost something like four bucks to get a dozen donuts. And there were no Mocha, Ice-Caps, or mint flavoured anything. You had Coffee, Hot Chocolate, and Tea, and that's just the way we liked it gosh darn it. Now get off my lawn!

I remember David the Gnome, Eureka's Castle, the Muppet Show, Rescue Rangers, Ah! Real Monsters, that really weird live action show about the elephant or something...and when ramen noodles were god-like and it was a treat when we got to have them for lunch at home.

(Well, that Ramen thing hasn't changed--just, now I'm in college and I make them myself and I have them whenever I want.)

I remember playing Wizards and Warriors and loving it! I loved that game! It got to be where on the level where you go to the castle, I had memorized where all the stones that moved were.

The original Castlevania. Metroid and Mario. And hating the turtles that threw axes at you. Kid Icarus, Tetris--where you could have one of three songs playing in the background. Either In the Hall of the Mountain King, that Mexican sounding song and--whatever the other one was.

I remember AOL 3.0 for Windows 95 when my step-dad got our first computer. Foul dial-up.

I remember when cell phones were these curious, bulky things that only hard-core business people owned.

Oh, children, when I was young, you could take your little sister to a matinee and get popcorn and it would all have been $10. And there was no PG-13. It was either PG or R. You could go down to the video rental place and rent a VCR and some betamax tapes. Did anybody ever make a mixed tape for their romantic interest? By taping individual songs from two tape decks, with an occasional song from the radio if one got lucky? I had a tape I carried with me for nearly a decade because I'd recorded Pull me Under by Dream Theater from the radio.

Ah, those were the days.

Man, I miss playing Pokemon all day, and everyone else had Pokemon, so if I wanted to play Pokemon with them I could, and it was fun, and yeah.

Also, I really miss that Star Wars cereal. And Beyblades. Those were freaking awesome. I pwned everyone.

Ha, you young 'uns. Back in my day, you had to fight off the Visigoths every time you went to school. And schools weren't these namby-pamby affairs they are now, oh no...
