Bad Rules

So, the apartment complex has a rule about pets. You can have ONE pet, who must be at least 1 year old, vaccinated and spayed/neutered. Before we moved in May of this year, we had just gotten a 6 week old kitten. We brought her along, because we didn't want to give her to a family member or a shelter. The manager of the complex called me today and asked, "DO YOU HAVE A KITTEN IN YOUR APARTMENT?" I said, "Yes we do. I'm happy to pay the pet deposit ($300, if you can believe that) if you let us keep it here. We are in the process of getting her vaccines and will get her declawed as soon as she's old enough for the surgery." The manager said, "THERE ARE NO PETS ALLOWED IN YOUR APARTMENT WHO ARE UNDER A YEAR OLD! YOU NEED TO GET RID OF IT IMMEDIATELY!" The only reason she's not letting us keep our cat is because she's not a year old, and I think that rule is ridiculous.

What are some bad rules you have to deal with on an everyday basis?

That is one specific rule. Did the person who made that rule have a bad experience with animals under a year old? Oh I don't know like being mauled by a bunch of ducklings?

I don't know any "bad rules"

All the rules I know make sense.

That and the one year rule has to do with being house trained I'm guessing.
Edit: I'm with Max on this one

I really hope that she was mauled by a box of kittens or something, because that way she'd have a good reason for enforcing a rule on a kitten. As I see it, she's just a ***** that I want to curb stomp just so she'll understand the hassle she put us through.

That sucks, what kind of evil person hates kittens. You could have lied though.

Rule 34 sucks, as does my last school's "No Bullying" policy, which I seemed exempt from.

I like it. Yes, it does ruin some childhood memories, but it also brings about great pictures.....
0_0. You're messed up.

But yes, rule 34 is a terrible rule.

No one is exempt from Rule 34 or a school's "No Bullying" policy. Except the bullies themselves for some reason. Has anyone else notcied that in their life?

It's not stupid. Pets under a year old are far more likely to be ill behaved and ruin the carpet, drapes, or furniture. Given that the landlord can waltz into your place whenever he likes, you were pretty much destined to be found out.

...Okay, obvious question: Why didn't you just lie?

I don't pay attention to rules - if I break them, whatever, if I end up following one, it won't kill me.
Our cat likes to sit on the ledges of our windows when we open them, and apparently the guy cutting the grass saw her and decided he would brown-nose his boss and tell her...because he likes it when people suffer, apparently.

While that is a good point, my apartment isn't exactly...um..."classy". We rented it with several large stains on the carpet and a couple of broken cabinets. Our kitten is incredibly friendly with people, even complete strangers, and only the refridgerator and dishwasher belong to the apartment. There isn't anything the cat could destroy that wasn't already destroyed that belongs to the complex.
