Bad Things Happen For a Reason

so i was watching the episode of 'Scrubs' where Laverne (spelling fail probably) and Dr.Cox are arguing whether bad things happen for a reason when a little girl is stabbed.

and it got me thinking, they actually do, at least in my eyes anyway. so i started to think back to some recent events that were 'bad' in a sense and how good things had actually come out of them, one being my driving test was cancelled due to "unforeseen circumstances", this made me mad as i had waited a month for this, so i call them up and they say i can have it 5 days earlier than the original which was great

a more 'serious' event was when my gran died of cancer i realised i didnt spend much time with her, so i have started spending more time talking to long distance relatives on the phone and visiting relatives that live nearby, i wouldnt have really done this without the death of my gran!

so my question is, what events in your life that initially were bad, have led to something good?

EDIT: i suppose it just comes down to the way you look at life

Can't really think of one.

I've had a lot of bad stuff happen to me or others and none ended up Hallmark worthy. In my opinion bad things don't happen for a reason. They just do. Just like good things.

My traumatic brain injury turned out okay because... wait...

Well, my back is permanently busted, but on the good side... wait...

Well, becoming sterile was awesome because I wanted chil... hold on a second...

Nothing bad has ever happened to me that turned out to be for the best.

Bad things are just bad things sometimes.

whew, thank god you didn't go where i thought you were going with this! your wording in the thread title is quite misleading.

but yeah, i agree that almost every bad event in my life has led to something positive.
the one that comes first and foremost to my mind is my attempted suicide 10 years ago, which catalyzed a series of positive changes in my life and forced me to accept myself for who i am.

Nope, not one bad thing that's happened to me ever turned out good, if anything it gets worse in some instances.

In my opinion, random bad things happen to random people, and random good things happen to random people. Not everything has to has a reason, most of the time it's happen stance and coincidence.

It's not always bad for a reason. Some bad things cannot be explained (ie the holocaust). I believe the more accurate phrase would be 'Shit happens'.

Well, the reason is usually that someone was being a dumb/jackass. Good and bad things happen to good and bad people; there's a reason people say life isn't fair. It's not.

Well, my amnesia turned out to... Hmmm, I can't seem to remember.

/joke

Eh. Nothing that bad has happened to me, and I don't really see the outcomes of other people's problems.

And this thread will turn to "Waaaah waaah my life sucks, cynicism, blah!"

You ignorant little piece of foul smelling asian dish!

Nothing bad happens for a reason, the only solution is to turn "lemons into lemonade"

Some do it because of luck, some work hard for it.

Sometimes, when gran dies, it just fucks up everything and takes away the only person who has ever unconditionally loved you.

I should beat you bloody, hopefully, you'll learn taking huge syringes of blood thinners to prevent clotting isnt so bad, so when you need your anti-rejection drugs to replace the liver i ruptured the needles wont scare you so much.
Wow, you have some issues man

You, are one of them.
Your anger...

It makes me sad.

Christ.

A more pithy and reliable statement would be: "Things happen."

Good and bad are generated by outside observers, not events themselves.

Cause and effect my good man, bad things happen because of a reason not the other way around, except in magical reverse land, where all the ladies are nice and horny... wish I was there... no! bad! finish the damn post!

You don't have an accident to make you a better driver, you have one because you are a bad driver(or someone else is, or it's slippery, or a meteor hit, or there were some boobies...)

You seem to be having some focusing issues.

Why is it that bad things happen to me when someone I know has it made, and never has bad stuff happen to them? He gets away with everything, even sleeping with a 14 year old when he was 18. I on the other hand, can hardly even find a girlfriend, and even though I have one she hasn't talked to me in almost a week. He does burnouts in the rain going 120 miles and I side swipe a car in the snow going 15 miles an hour. All the girls like him, while I'm seen as a creeper no mater what I do. Still a virgin at 18 while he's been nailing tons of girls for years. So don't tell me any good comes out of bad things happening. Silver linings are either not there, or not worth it. I would honestly trade the lives of everyone around me if I could have as much success as that person I know.
