Oh god, hell yes.
Especially that BS he pulls at the end.
I couldn't find anyone better for this position. He isn't even badass, he's just a really, really narcissistic prick.
Indeed, I would've shot the guy myself if the game had let me.
Yes, to avenge the death of Barnum!

Seriously, Reaver is the type of character that betrays you towards the end of the game and you get to kill them. In fact, he does betray you. But you don't get to kill him because of it.

Master chief isnt even a character he has no dialogue, any silent protagonist is not a character but a robot that you control, just an emotionless skin you fill out. Gordon freeman, mario, I was going to say pacman but he has character in pacman world 2 where he lets his emotions out and expresses himself with unique mannerisms. Its not even like you control him in that game as much as you give him instructions and he follows them to the best of his ability (if he feels like it).
Um, that is what a game is about? Ordering them around with a controller. And Master Chief is a character, he talks, he just doesn't execute the dialogue extremely well.
I actually had to confess to liking the Chief a fair bit. Mostly because he's never clearly arrogant as much as he is just determined and set on course. You know one hundred percent set on his mission, a man bred solely for war and nothing else. But he still has a human side, he has a sense of humour for one thing (he has a clear wit about him), the ability to feel respect, a sense of compassion, actual normal friendly interactions around people most notable Cortana and he clearly has no qualms with working with Aliens. He even shows he is capable of making mistakes when he gets lead astray by Guilty Spark in the first Halo. I don't know why I just find him interesting, he has quite a deep psychological profile if you read the books.

The badasses I have intense hate for are the 40K space marines. Always shouting about their precious 'god emperor' and talking about killing all aliens based around some flimsy moral code that makes no sense and they never ever shut up. My biggest gripe is that two of my friends are 40K nuts and NEVER EVER shut up about them. Whenever I see a movie, book or game where the humans are unquestionably good and the aliens are completely evil and even when the humans are fighting for alien genocide it is justified it just makes me sick to my stomach. The War Hammer Space Marines and all the dumbass racists on Halo 3 multiplayer who all scream about how awesome being human is and how superiour they are and human pride and of course 'oooh yeah genocide' kind of attitude have succeded in making me develop a bitter grudge against the entire human race and the reason why I consider the human race to be the embarrasment of the whole universe.

Kratos, hes a badass but it always feels like hes making your life harder by killing everything that moves. Honestly how hard is it to accept the key the guy is giving you without ripping off his head in the process.

Personally my favorite badass to hate is kira/light from deathnote. yeah, he can kill people so easily it is ridiculous, but on the other hand his high and mighty bearing tended to get under my skin.

my old standby for threads about badass's, our good friend, randal flagg. what book's he from? epic cookie for someone who knows.
The Stand of course.

I cannot hate him of course. He's just too badass to hate. Not to mention, I think he's just a personification of everything that is evil in people.
he is almost too badass to hate. i mean...seriously...but anyways, most stephen king characters are quite badass *cough, cough*mortakai&isaac*cough, cough*

and most children of the corn characters.

and by the way, have an epic cookie.
Mother Abigail....shes a badass!!! I personally thought that Randall Flagg survived the nuke at the end of the book because the evil in mans heart will always exist

But on a less serious note Albert Wesker, why would you leave your mind slaves alone with an easily seen control device in her chest....all I am saying is that man needs to think his shit out!

Sylar from the first 2 seasons of Heroes...complete badass and just fucks everyone up. Hated how they turned him emo in the last seasons though.

Cross from Prototype. Cannot remember what his rank was, but I actually wanted their to be some mode where you could play as him. his overall badassness is mangled up by what he does near the end-game.

I was gonna say Alex, but his monolouges in the cutscenes won me over.

Actually I have another one, Turok. Sure he's a tough gritty commando I guess... but he is also a violent animal murderer, he invades the dinosaurs home then stabs them to death. I think that's really sick, what a bastard.

Quite a few, but I'll go with The Stand.

EDIT: Definitely not the first one to say that, but eh.

Arkham from DMC3. He can kick the pasty white butts of Dante, Vergil and Lady at the same time, but he's just an arrogant, overly-preachy jerk.

Not to mention that he was a pretty big failure of a boss.

Note: I'm not counting Arkham and Jester as the same character in this context. Jester was actually kinda cool, even if his voice was grating.

But the BEST example is...

Colonel Volgin!

Just because. Was anyone NOT happy to see him die? Anyone? Didn't think so. Too bad he never met The Punisher.

Definitely, especially Cole. God I hate him.

I think he just lets his squad mates die/get captured so he can make himself look like a bigger badass when he takes on all the Locust by himself.

Guy from prototype. I finished the game a week ago and don't even remember his name.
I agree the game gives you no way to be a good guy. The only compromise I've made is not to eat innocent civilians and to try and to avoid running them over, that's hardly "good" in anyone's book.

I'm sorry, but I can't hate any character who is voiced by Stephen Fry.

/end Stephen Fry fanboyism
