This.

BG2 holds a rank in my personal best games ever list (Portal, Myst 3, and ChronoTrigger also rank).

If you've played and liked recent BioWare titles but haven't played this... get it now.

If you like wRPGs... get this now.

Hell, unless you are vehemently against the entire RPG genre... get this now.

If you are vehemently against the entire RPG genre, this may be the game that can change your mind so... get this now.

"You deal, I'll cut!" , "...and this one's for grandma, who said I'd never amount to anything more than a butterknife!!", not to mention his Dirty Harry/Wolverine quotes and how to get rich advices :D

Bioshock is to System shock 2 is what Star wars eps is to the first trilogy IE Shiny, shallow and dull.

Stupid question: do you need to play the first to get the sequal? I'm ashamed to say I haven't played either, but I want to play both.

OT: Damnit GOG, you really want me to have no money or free time don't you? Why else would you keep releasing all these amazing games?

No, you don't need to get the first. Other than a few characters there isn't a whole lot of continuity. It's not as big a deal as importing, say, a Shepard for Mass Effect 2.

And yeah, their huge wave of recent RPG goodness really tempted me a few times. It's a good thing I still have BG 2 on its discs because otherwise I would definitely be picking this one up. Even so I wound up picking up PS:T (actually going through it with mods this time, so that should be interesting).

I'm just going to come right out and say it: Baldur's Gate 2 is the most epic fantasy role-playing experience of all time. Of all time![/B]
i have always been up in the air about whether i loved baldurs gate 1 or baldurs gate 2 more. there is no question, however, that the pc baldurs gate games are, without competition, my favorite rpgs. i have shadows of amn but my throne of bhaal disk doesnt seem to work, for some reason. this is worth the $10 price just so i can play the expansion and finally finish this epic story

you should definitely play the first one before playing the second. the story will have a lot more impact. also, if you play the second one and then play the first one, somewhere down the line, a lot of the big surprises from the first game will be completely ruined

Can I ask why you want a remake? The game is gorgeous as it is, and the widescreen mod solves that issue. I doubt you could get a good remake with todays tech, at least judging on my Dragon Age experiences. The worlds always feel empty and clumsy compared to the detailed paintings of the original BG games.

Also, the amount of text would cost a fortune to voice act.
Higher resolutions, mostly (800x600 just doesn't cut the mustard anymore). I don't care about the voice acting as long as they keep the original lines and actors. And a graphics system closer to the Neverwinter Nights games would be nice as well.

Bioshock has nothing on System Shock; similar game structure sure, but entirely different settings, themes, gameplay and characters.

I tend to think of Baldur's Gate as one huge, gigantic game, rather than as separate entities. You can definitely play the second without the first and BG2 brings a lot of refinements and improvements to the party, but for me a lot of what happened in the second game had added impact because it was a direct continuation of the first. If you have the time - and believe me, it'll take a lot of it - I'd urge any serious RPG fan hitting it up for the first time to do the whole thing. It really is an epic experience.

*sniff* Oh, the nostalgia . . . .

The only way I'd be happier with GoG is if they offered Dungeon Keeper. Then I'd build a shrine to them.

Baldur's Gate 2 remains the pinnacle of the rpg genre as far as I'm concerned. There just hasn't been a game yet to match it, not by Bioware nor anyone else.

Anyone who has never played the PC Baldur's Gate series needs to go give em a try right away, especially now that they're so easily available.

BTW anyone know of a mana mod for BG1? Found one for BG2.
While I admit it's been a while since I fiddled around with BG mods, I think there should be a way to get the BG2 mod to work with BG1.

Install BGTuTu (which makes BG1 run in the BG2 engine) and it should (hopefully) work.

A better idea is to buy BOTH the first and the second, and then use Tutu [http://usoutpost31.com/easytutu/] to import the files of the first game into the second game.

This gives it a MUCH improved engine, many more classes (BG1 only has the very basic classes, with no subclasses), ect. Much more playable, especially if you played BG2 first.

Eh, I'm kind of wary of those old RPGs. They usually always have the boring combat system of click on the enemy, watch the game fight it for me and hope my stats are higher.

While not quite a remake, you should check this out: http://www.gamersnexus.net/bgr-home
