In an effort to keep this alive, The Sword. Great Metal band, especially for those who hate screamo, black metal, etc. and just want some heavy riffs and cool soloing.

I'm talking about those bands that you can't talk about with other people because they don't know them. Keep in mind that I'm referring to real life conversations, not internet conversations.

One band that I have a hard time finding fans for is Radio Moscow. Not a lot of people in my area seem to know them, but they're awesome. A great mix of blues and psychedelic rock. Modern too, I might add.

Got bands like this?
Highly awesome I might say...
Not many of my friends have heard about Children of Bodom... or even Pink Floyd... blasphemy, that's all I say!
Bodom, I can understand. Didn't know about them until GH5, I can say I'm not a fan.

But PINK-FUCKING-FLOYD? Torches and Pitchforks!!!!
My point exactly my friend...

Huzzah! Another reason to post a Closure In Moscow and Vangough song! And I'll throw in some Polkadot Cadaver for the hell of it.
Three of my favorite bands ever, and they both need much more exposure.

I could list hundreds more (not exaggerating), but I'll leave it at these three.

EDIT: Going to throw some Emilie Autumn in here too.

Ive heard of vangough.

they did a badass Wily 1/2 remix.

Sort of Ironic really: Loads of my friends love the same kind of obscure metal I do, and would definitely give it a try, but none of my friends share my love of Pearl Jam.

But Pearl Jam is awesome...

Speaking of which, anyone else think that Eddy Vedder looks a bit like Jesus?

Tom.Fucking.Waits.

Nobody talks about him these days.Because everyone sucks.
Aside from his Heart of Saturday Night album (an absolutely fantastic album, might I add), I can't stand Tom Waites. My friends love everything he does though, and I've got to give credit where its due. His lyrical capabilities are nearly unmatched.

*Snip of my videos*

Yeah, Vangough's second album, Game On!, is an album of video game covers, which while its not all that uncommon these days, I personally think Vangough does it significantly better than most bands. If the album had vocals, it'd probably be the perfect album.

I think he is really good at music, but i find it hard to get into him.
Where Tom Waits really shines is in his lyrics. Possibly the best musical poet since the Beatles, and that's coming from someone who doesn't really care for any of the musicians mentioned.

If you want to hear a really good lounge-style/nightclub musician, you won't get much better than Tom Waits "Heart of Saturday Night" album. Anything else, you're really going to have to acquire a taste for, as a critic once put it, a voice "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car". He completely ruined his vocal cords (though some would say that it improved his music. I'm not one of them).

Satyricon, Primordial, Týr. And there three bands are mild successes. I know that Týr have played on Wacken, which is no small feat.

The British band Athlete wrote Wires, which is a very famous and popular song, but no-one I know seems to know any of their songs beyond that. Which is a shame, cause they have four albums and the two I own are both fantastic. Athlete are one of my favourite bands, yet no-one seems to be a fan of them. Quite a shame :/

As I don't really feel like looking through the whole thread, I dunno if they've been mentioned or not, but Foxy Shazam. Hailing from Cincinatti, they're a sort of glam rock band.

Solar Fields. He's an Electronic Downtempo/Ambient artist. Incidentally, he also made the music for Mirror's Edge. Below are a couple of his tracks.

I've yet to meet another person in real life who knows who he is, and I've been listening to his music more or less since the game came out.
I haven't heard of him. But thanks to you, now I have. Good stuff!

I like Pretty Lights,
And I like you!

For me, my entire collection of music is a laundry list of bands and artists no one but me seems to have heard of outside of the internet. Except Pink Floyd and the Grateful Dead, all I get are blank stares and raised eyebrows when I mention ANY artists on my playlists!

When you say "bands," I realize I listen to very few "bands," but to name an actual band I can't find any fans for IRL outside of a show, despite their popularity in this state, is STS9. Lotus, either.

For musical artists and producers in general, damn, the list is exhaustive. Only in the Denver area can I find people who love Pretty Lights like I do. Then there's... Shpongle. Bluetech. Entheogenic. Shulman. Big Gigantic. Motet. Thievery Corporation. Pnuma Trio. Mimosa. Emancipator. Glitch Mob. I could go on....but won't. I won't even get into the lack of electro/dance listeners in general around here. Let alone decent hip-hop... I swear I'm an island of musical taste unto myself here...
