Most mainstream bands, as much of their hate is due to their popularity. Not to say there aren't legitimate problems, but people would probably dismiss Nickelback as simply mediocre were they not relatively well-known.

In all honesty being the negative nilly here I think that there isn't exactly bad to hate an artist, the worst thing you can do to an artist is tell him his work is perfect when its not, and it should be the same for music, though this is a really hard topic to defend because I personally believe that the worst thing to happen to music is that it became and industry, but all the same I think there is to much hatred of pop idols in comparison to other genres that deserve a little bit more pressure.

Surjan Stevens recent EP got shit for reviews, and his last album did to, it was critically bombed and didn't sell because of it, but I still have mad respect for him, you know why? because he tried doing something new and it failed, he could have just done the same thing he did with Illinoise "A very critically acclaimed album" and the album probably would have sold, but he did what I believe every artist should do and change.

1) Slipknot; stupidest argument I've heard is, "they suck because they need 9 members to sound good," So they sound good but they suck because their different?
It's because they really are not that great (I find them merely alright, but that's not the point). And having nine members in your band and being out-done by a one-man project whose sole member is far younger than all of your members does not bode well for your band, really.
maybe some examples please?

Personally they aren't being outdone, and there not playing the same music, you can't judge one as better if they're not playing the same stuff. And the same could be said for any band with more than one member. Find me a one man band that could play 3 drums kits, 2 guitars, a bass, a turntable, media samples and sing at the same time

Any bands that get blamed for crimes because of their "violent lyrics", its not their fault for the crimes its the people who take it too seriously

The most correct answer is DragonForce. They are gods. Hating something for being amazing is possibly the most pointless form of hate.
As a very big Dragonforce fan I must say it's "Dragonforce" not "DragonForce" :p
I completely agree though, they play a few bad songs and it gives the idiots who dislike their style of playing something to go on about

If you go out and buy a ticket to see them today, you will hear that they sound just as good live as they do on their album

I was a little disappointed with Ultra Beatdown though, however the special edition version was an improvement

My hate for Dragonforce comes from them being a damn studio band. Herman Li and Sam Totman have improved since the older days, but they still can't play all of what they've recorded, and being a guitar player, it really bothers me that they do that. As much as I'd like to record some of the things I've written, I can't play all of it at my current low as hell skill level, so it's gonna sit there until I can. That being said, I do like their music, I just think they should be able to play their own songs live in their entirety.

OT: Coheed & Cambria seems to get a lot of hate because "THEIR SINGER SOUNDS LIKE A GIRL, SO I CAN'T ENJOY THEIR MUSICAL TALENT AT ALL". The correct statement is that he has a very high vocal range with a wicked accent, and his falsetto sounds like a girl. Also they are insanely talented musicians.

There's an example right there, the hyperlink in the blue writing.

Regardless, there are somewhat objective ways to gauge musical talent, and that would be the technical difficulty of the musical piece in question. A guitar or violin solo of a high skill level is obviously a better quality piece of music than a song played on synth, which is why, regardless of personal taste, classical and metal music is always "better" than pop. You also get points for writing your own songs.
A solo on any instrument can be of a ridiculously high technical difficulty and not be better in quality than another piece that is simpler. Technical difficulty does not imply a good piece. Get to the Choppa by Austrian Death Machine certainly is more technically difficult than say, Moonage Daydream by David Bowie, but that doesn't make it better. It's how everything comes together in that piece to convey its feeling.

One way or another, it still comes down to what is pleasing to the ear, and that's still subjective.
OT: I forgot about this one...anyone ever mention a song by one band, only for it to be countered by "No, I like THIS band", like it's either you like this band or THIS band? I got that with The Beatles and The Beach Boys for some reason. It wasn't "No, I don't care much for their style", it was "No, I like The Beach Boys". Pointless hate? Maybe not hate, but a stupid as hell excuse.

Nickelback's first couple of albums were pretty good actually. Sure, they're generic and a bit repetitive, but they wrote some good riffs. Their later albums sucked a bit harder though.

Also Avenged Sevenfold. They look like a bunch of bellends but they're pretty damned talented (except maybe the singer. He's got better though and at least he can sing in tune unlike some people *cough*Tom Delonge*cough*) and they've written some great songs. Even if people don't like them I can't see why they deserve such extreme hatred.

I would have to say Justin Bieber. And most other pop stars.
If you don't want to listen to them, then don't. Don't hate.
But the problem with popstars is that you don't have that choice , isn't it?
They appear on Tv channels where they have no business appearing in, get played in malls etc.

My mom likes this band called Nickleback. I just hate the singer's voice. but a lot of people really hate them. It's not like they're a bad influence on teenagers, have their own show on Disney or Nickelodeon, or like they slap their faces on everything from candy to skateboards.

Anything from around nowdays in generl

you have poeple come along with their nostalga filters turned up to 11 complaining about how awful everything is now today and how the 80's was the absolute greatest era in music

or...people who hate all kinds of pop and proudly proclaim in a very eleatist fashion how they love bands like metallica ACDC the beatles ect

and rap that gets alot of undeserved hate

Also, Eminem. Yeah, I know, he whines a lot, but in a lot of his stuff he can be very funny, and his lyrics can be very clever (please don't reply with a bunch of bad lyrics from him, you just look sad).

And N-Dubz.
N-Dubz are terrible, perfectly hatable also Eminem is one of the best rappers out there people who hate him just hate rap or they just hate him because he's a white rapper. And to all those people saying "Oh all hate is pointless because opinion is subjective fnar fnar"; it's meant to be a fun thread, not a psychology thesis.

I don't understand all the hatred Justin Bieber gets. I mean: hate the parents who didn't abort him. (Please excuse the very political incorrectness of this joke, moderators.)

Yep. I can't stand Nickleback. Terrible band. Nothing against you, of course. You can't help your taste in music, so there's really no point in persecuting you over it. We can still be polite, after all.

That said, I've never listened to Nickleback in my life, and can't say I want to.
This confuses me. You claim they're a terrible band yet you say you've never listened to them? Explain please.

I'd say that Nickelback is, at worst, mediocre, and people hate them just because they're immensely popular.

Eminem is quite talented but I can't stand listening to him in any more than extremely small doses because his vocal tone is so grating (nothing to do with being white either - there are other white rappers I really like a lot). Also a lot of his raps are frankly very emo. I can understand him not wanting to be a gangster cliche and that's fair enough but no need to go in the other direction and be a complete crybaby, his constant bleating about how supposedly hard-done-by is just gives me the shits. Gosh it must be tough with all his millions of dollars. Having said that I don't hate the guy, he's had some good songs in the past and all power to him and the people who like him, I just wish he'd harden up a little.
