No he isn't that technically good at bass at all and that's why I picked him for bass being a good instrument. It's not his technical playing skill that gets him noticed it is his passion for the instrument and his energy he displays while playing that makes his style so unique.JFrog84 said:Bass is one of the most important instruments in a band it sets the groove and is the driving force behind the whole song.
I really wish people would stop using flea as a case for bass being a good instrument he's not even that good really. If you want one the best bassists check out James Jamerson he is essentially Mr Motown http://youtu.be/5pVM00eoohI6SteW6 said:Dude just listen to some RHCP, listen to Flea's awesome bassing and you will know that bass can be a hell of an instrument. People don't see it as an important instrument but it's not about what you play it's how you play and the energy you produce while playing that will get others into it.
or Jack Bruce Clapton described him as playing lead on bass http://youtu.be/L3GIQ86eu6c
People going into bass with the attitude of 'Well it's not lead guitar' are destined for failure. People who go into the bass with an understanding of why it's a great instrument and a passion for playing it can make the lead guitarist look like a chump. The only reason Flea didn't do that was because Frusciante was the lead guitarist for RHCP and he is a demi-god. And my super public man crush
