From the demo, I can already tell that it's going to be regarded as one of the best Batman games ever made, and that's enough to make me consider buying it.
Every time I played through that demo, though, one phrase kept popping into my mind: Missed opportunity. For those of you who haven't played yet, there are two kinds of "stealth take-downs" available to use in the demo; the kind you use from behind, and the kind you use from above.
The "from behind" take down was pretty much expected, so I don't have much of any opinion on it. The "from above" take down, though, is excellent. Batman hangs upside down from a grappling point, waits until someone passes beneath him, then snatches them up into the air like some great ghoul. It plays very heavily on the idea of Batman being this creature from the dark, and it's a lot of fun.
Here's the problem, though; why is that the only kind of "stealth takedown" that plays up the fear element? At one point, you're given the opportunity to hide in grating beneath the feet of some guards. Wouldn't it be great to be able to open the grate and pull a guard under? And what about the old standby of the Batman series, dragging some hapless guard into the darkness, never to be seen again?
I'm really hoping that because this was just a demo, we're only being given a small taste of what Batman's really capable of... But I've been disappointed before.
