I have about a hour and a half in to this game's multiplayer and I just realized, this game really made you have to learn the sniper rifle you use. It's not like Modern Warfare were you shoot your rifle and the bullet is there within Milli seconds. You have to consider how fast your bullet is moving, the amount it will fall from gravity, if it will kill them in one shot or two, the chances of them moving and more. If you really want to be a good sniper.

It's good I realized this now because I was owning the snipers on the other side of the field, none of them could hit me because the bullet's would drop.

I think this game mechanic is very cool what do you think?

I don't have the cash to try it out yet, but I would very much like a more realistic system like that. I love sniping, and realistic sniping makes it more interesting.

I really like it.

It gives the game a better sense of realism (It stress' that you're fighting with projectiles, not lazers) and gives each rifle a very unique "feel" at longer ranges.

You can even hear the super-sonic crack of a sniper's bullet passing by you, which really sucks me into the moment.

funny enough I haven't even picked up a sniper rifle in the multiplayer part of the game. sure is fun to have in the single player experience though.

Sure you can kill someone by shooting them in the foot but this would take at the least 3 shots compared to the upper chest only having to take 1 or 2.

I want to snipe, but I'm too used to COD sniping to do it in any other game. It makes me sad.... Until I remember that I have automatic rifles too.

But having artillery strikes would be nice.

Yeah it doesn't feel like you are trying to get the bullet to hit them rather them hit the bullet.

Yeah, its really hard. But its also all the more rewarding for pulling off a headshot on that dick in the helicopter.

I love Battlefield's sniping, its probably some of the best sniping I've ever played. Although, it's fairly aggravating whenever I use the M95, and I see the shot hit someone dead in the chest (the little dust effect that comes with a hit) and they don't go down. I mean, the M95 is chambered for .50 BMG, one hit from that, you;re fucking dying, I don't care what game you're playing.

I liked the way S.T.A.L.K.E.R. handled sniping. It had gravity and ricochets and whatnot.

I've only played the demo, I'm getting the full game tommorow but I really enjoyed the sniping mechanichs. It feels 23453443x more satisfying hitting compaired to CoD, especially when they're on the run.

I love it. But! I hate when half my team is sniping when we're assaulting! So I just go in their faces and use the engineer tool on them, which makes clouds of smoke. They can't see, they can't snipe, they get pissed. They won't learn the lesson, but they can't tell me to move either since they know they're making us lose.

"Realism" in games, especially shooters have always made me laugh. That's why I like the TF2 Sniper.

As a Battlefield veteran, I bloody love it. Wish I had Bad Company 2, but Battlefield 2 will have to do for now.

Why does it make you laugh? Some people like a bit of realism in their games...

I love the fact you actually have to use the different notches in your crosshairs now, as opposed to it just being eye-candy (if you like the little details). Now, if only they could put in windage as well, perhaps a lot more people wouldn't bother sniping if they cant be arsed adjusting for wind, as well as gravity and distance. That would make actual sniping, and sniper duels, properly epic.

I don't know about all this. Especially bullet drop. You see, as far as I know in every FPS, the scope on the weapon shows you where the bullet is going to go. This is a problem both ways. Firstly, if the scope is zeroed for parallel, then you should always aim slightly above your target anyway. However, most scopes are sighted for a particular range (I believe the Steyr in the Aus Army is 400m or something.) So you should be able to hit what you're aiming at for that range and + or minus height where appropriate.

So yeah...marksmanship in video games is a funny area. And again, this comes back to realism, and it being what we really want. *shrug*
