I think I'd like Battlefield's realism rather than other game's point-and-shoot..ism, if I took the time to become good at it. And I think the process of becoming a good sniper would be fun too, but until I become good at it, I'd prefere to be able to just point and shoot, because most of the time chaos is all around you. Or at least it can be.

I really like it.

It gives the game a better sense of realism (It stress' that you're fighting with projectiles, not lazers) and gives each rifle a very unique "feel" at longer ranges.

You can even hear the super-sonic crack of a sniper's bullet passing by you, which really sucks me into the moment.
Battlefeild BC2 (Multiplayer) is definately the most emersive war time shooter that I have played up to now.

I prefer the less realistic version. Because I suck.
Me too. You're not alone. I almost always fail when I try to snipe. Once I got two headshots in a row and you'd think I'd won the lottery by how excited I was.

As a Battlefield veteran, I bloody love it. Wish I had Bad Company 2, but Battlefield 2 will have to do for now.
Heh same. I'm actually surprised to hear this is even a factor in BC:2. I figured that it was a far less "large" game (seeing as it only allows 24 and not 64 players), so you wouldn't ever be at a range for delay to matter. It only makes a noticeable difference in BF2 at ranges larger than 150 metres or something. Most fps's don't have fighting ranges much bigger than that...

Personally though, I love it. So much more satisfying to take out guys on the move at large ranges. It feels like you're actually skilled at something, not just clicking someone's face. I've always loved BF for its more complex shooting mechanics. And then there's the flip side: its actually possible to take evasive action on snipers. It keeps them balanced when most other classes don't have weapons effective at the ranges present in non-city maps.

And yes its obviously baloney that the M95 doesn't drop people in one hit (unless its to the head of course, no small task at range). But its still balanced. It's weighted at a lot more damage than any other classes primary, and every weapon in bf2 doesn't do as much damage as you would expect. Especially the silenced pistol. Point blank range headshots don't kill in one hit BAH. So you knife them. But all that being said at least in BF when you shoot people they can't just run around a corner for 4 seconds, then pop back out and shoot you with an rpd with an acog. That game stinks...

I have about a hour and a half in to this game's multiplayer and I just realized, this game really made you have to learn the sniper rifle you use. It's not like Modern Warfare were you shoot your rifle and the bullet is there within Milli seconds. You have to consider how fast your bullet is moving, the amount it will fall from gravity, if it will kill them in one shot or two, the chances of them moving and more. If you really want to be a good sniper.

It's good I realized this now because I was owning the snipers on the other side of the field, none of them could hit me because the bullet's would drop.

I think this game mechanic is very cool what do you think?
Its nothing special, been going at "realistic balistics" since Operation flashpoint went out.
However, its there i realized the sniper rifle scopes (with all the lines and numbers on them) are actually VERY usefull when you understand how to use them.

i like it. the fact that they have to concentrate so hard of trajectory means i can sneak up behind em and:
A, knife em
B, shoot em
C, cover them in C4, shoot them once with the pistol so they turn around and go BOOM!!
D, crouch below their scope and then pop up so my face fills the screen, i usually get a laugh from that.

you want good realist sniping?? play sniper elite. That game you had to consider: distance, wind, them moving and time taken for bullet to get there. you want realist sniping then play that. I think it's only like £5 on steam now.

I don't snipe that much but it sounds like a improvement on CODs style and will make me feel a bit safer when running across open ground.

You had to do it in Halo too. : )

just to give you an idea of just how original and gamechanging it is.

i havent liked snipers since the AWP in c-strike. dead from a footshot? Come on!
I understand the hatred for it. But if you got shot in the foot with a 50 caliber round your foot is gone, you are laying on the ground in shock bleeding out. "Taken" out of the game. I just think it needs to combined with realistic sniping, to make it hard to hit that foot. Socom 1 was like that with the 50 cal snipers. But you could also drop someone by shooting them in the foot a few times with an AR.

I love it. But! I hate when half my team is sniping when we're assaulting! So I just go in their faces and use the engineer tool on them, which makes clouds of smoke. They can't see, they can't snipe, they get pissed. They won't learn the lesson, but they can't tell me to move either since they know they're making us lose.
they're making you lose..yet you standing at the back doing nothing is making you win?

I did a lot of sniping in BF: 1942 and it was the same thing - lead your targets and aim a little high. I really like that it makes it super challenging. I don't think MW2 sniping is too bad tho simply because for the most part it's actually fairly short range. Some levels it's longer and that's when it's cheezy (like Rails) but eh. It's fun.

I knew someone would reply with this. I can't really stroll into the base crawling with enemy soldiers and take out the MCOMM stations myself, can I? Even if I did, I'd be dead within a second and the station disarmed within 10. So, no, it's not making me win. But it has a neutral effect on the outcome, since our team wouldn't win anyways with all the moron snipers. I'd rather annoy the idiots making us lose than run repeatedly into certain death.

They're not snipers, they're recon, their job is to get a good view of the battlefield and spot enemies for their team and pick off enemy recon, granted most don't, but you're not exactly helping the situation

i prefer it, cos the damage is CONSISTENT unline the interfail (intervention) on mw2, plus i do like havin to earn my kills on battlefield rather than just instantly ownin anyone i see. makes the game more fun, i usually make the game lie that on mw2 as well by usin the shittiest perks and weps so i have a dis-adv instead of bein equal (if that was the case id be in mega-positive ¬.¬)

You just said it yourself, they're acting like snipers. I can't help the situation anyways. There were 2-3 of us attacking. No one else. It was impossible, unless the enemy started using marshmallow ammunition. That "good view of the battlefield" doesn't do much when it can't be used.

Fair point but in my experience, people who do this sort of thing don't care if you're playing the class properly or just being yet another sniper. Last night I was playing a squad deathmatch game, I started out as assault but my squad was lagging behind a bit so I decided to switch to recon for a few minutes to try and get us back in the running. Within about a minute of me switching, one of my "teammates" decided to spawn and me and shoot darts in my face.

I ended up joining the new 1-man squad of the guy who'd just joined, got 2 more and beat his squad...probably because they thought annoying their team was more important than actually killing the enemy.

oh the irony
