I am NOT a Modern Warfare 3 fangirl, I want to make that clear. but I..well, I'm not feeling the love for Battlefield 3. My brother bought it and I tried it and well...bleah. The guns all feel and sound the same, aiming is a huge pain int eh butt, you die VERY easily, and whiel I can appreciate that in a game, they are expecting you to conquer far more enemies with far less health.

My objectives aren't always clear, I can't cook grenades (or haven't figured out how) and a lot of the game just feels..very meh. I hope that Modern warfare 3 isn't like this, Or I'll be disappointed.

anyone else feeling this?

You pretty much described the modern shooter formula, this isn't by any chance the first game of this caliber you played is it?

And if it's not, then what made the others stand out?

No it's not. Most shooters can set apart their guns and surroundings, so at least I have some idea what i'm doing, if only by sheer virtue of people i haven't shot yet.

Battlefield 3..I don't know, I just found it rather flat and dull. That and I don't understand why a big ol' sniper rifle makes the same piddly bang as a much smaller gun.

None of the mainline BF games have allowed grenade cooking, if you're on PC, right click allows you to change how hard you throw the grenade, but the timer is always the same.

I've no opinion on BF3 proper as I'm in Euroland, but every CoD after 4 has left me cold and neither Bad Company nor BC2 held my attention for any length of time, so hopefully BF3 will turn the trend around.

I have not played the full game yet, but I was disappointed by the Beta for pretty much the reasons you listed. Besides, I usually don't play online, I just play occasionally when friends come over. Can anyone tell me if Battlefield 3 supports 4 player split-screen?

No I give you the sounds thing, production value really plummeted on those.
But ... actually I don't know why I'm arguing since I haven't played the full game yet, it might just turn out that I'll be utterly annoyed by it.

You need to get new speakers or headphones. BF3 is the best sounding war game to date by far.

The gunplay is also top notch. Are you turned off by the recoil?

Stick with call of duty. It's definitely more your style.

i'm playing on a console, not the pc. My computer couldn't handle that game. Gunplay i don't agree is top notch, though I will say that the AI is great, very clever and very dangerous. but the gunplay.../shrug.

It didn't strike me as being particularly special. and The guns didn't have recoil..like..at all. Or very little recoil.

and I maintain: all the guns sound virtually identical.

The smg's have very little recoil. The AR's and LMG's have a very noticeable amount of recoil. I'm on pc, perhaps aim assist on consoles removes the feelings of the guns.

I don't think you can give an accurate review of the sound unless you are running it through a quality sound system. Tv speakers don't count.

my TV speakers can tell the difference in every other shooter game between guns. The guns sound different. if a game makes all guns sound the same on a tv, then it has failed to entertain me as a customer

I've never had a strong attraction toward battlefield or CoD, but most of my friends play CoD, so thats what I play just so I can play with them. if all of them (or at least the majority) switched to battlefield, I probably would to.

Hah! I should've guessed when you said you have too many enemies to kill and not enough health to do it. You're playing the campaign!

The campaign is not Battlefield. The campaign is mediocre. Multiplayer is Battlefield. Multiplayer is brilliant.

As for your specific complaints about guns, I don't know what weapons they give you in the campaign but try using an SVD rifle. Then try using an SKS rifle. Then tell me the guns sound the same. As for why a lot of the guns sound more similar than in other games? Because that's what guns sound like. Believe it or not explosions of gunpowder at various magnitudes and frequencies still sound similar. Especially since there aren't many big rifles in the game. No .50 cal for instance. Edit(There's the M82 but I thought the one in BF3 was a lower caliber variant? Eh)

Honestly I'd prefer a more arcadey feel for gun sounds so I could actually tell what was what but I'm not that fussed.

Also I don't know what to tell you about recoil but there's more of it than there is in CoD. Are you using SMGs?

i don't agree about the recoil. I use whatever gun i pick up that I fancy, usually Assault rifles.

and a game should be able to hold up on its single player. I don't play any game strictly for its multiplayer unless it's a fighting game. I play games because i enjoy single player experiences. the multiplayer should add to this, not be teh sole reason the game exists.

Oh hey 1998, what's up?

Battlefield is a multiplayer game. The main focus in development is the multiplayer, and the single player is put there out of good courtesy. Judging the game without playing what it was meant to be played on is stupid.

I don't think Battlefield 3 is the problem, here. To be honest - I think it's your frame of mind. You sound very closed minded about video games. Multiplayer is just as valid as single player is.

Get with the times man. If you only like multiplayer in fighting games - you probably shouldn't have picked this game up. If you want to play a single player orientated FPS, look into the Brothers in Arms series. Battlefield 3 is a multiplayer game.

Welcome to real life. The developers recorded the sound that each gun makes when it is fired at military exercises.
Surprise surprise, bullets sound like bullets!

Game was not worth what I paid for it, and I didn't even get half of what I payed for it back when I returned it.

I do hope you know that Battlefield started as a multiplayer-only series and that multiplayer is still by far its primary focus. I get if you don't enjoy multiplayer, but don't criticize the game for doing what it's supposed to.
