I remember back when the very first Battlefield came out. I remember thinking "Ah, this game is fantastic. What a shame it's brought to us by EA."

How little things have changed. They already pulled this stunt with Dragon Age II, so I expect it to become company policy.

So. The sniper rifle will be quieter and harder to spot. The shotgun can shoot me from a little further away.
I think that someone is failing to understand what is supposed to be special about Battlefield 3. Real men don't need slightly modified guns.
THEY LEVEL THE BUILDING WITH A TANK!

They are in the game from day one as well. Let's see what happens when the pre-orders come up against heavy ordnance.

Definitely not game breaking bonuses here, not sure why people are getting so ruffled. Sure, they make them sound cool in marketing to get those pre-orders, but DICE has never let us down in the balancing department. Have faith!

BFBC2 was rebalanced during two different patches over the months to normalize every gun in each category because people complained that some guns were better than others. I don't really expect a different outcome with BF3. After all, DICE has always focused on the multi-player which is why we love them!

To pre-order the game from Game costs the same as to buy it on day one, or from release.

Why do people have an issue with this? Just order it now, make sure you have the money in your account when the game is released and you'll be better off for no extra price.

Really, complaining about FREE extras is just shite. Pre-order it and be done with the moaning, they'll print as many codes as need be.

People are ruffed because the internet hosts the biggest group of gaming whiners that can actually exist with our current system.

On one hand, I heard that the pre-order bonus was simply early unlocks and so everyone is freaking out over very little.

On the other hand, I'm kind of glad that an internet boycott is taking hold, especially with all of the naysayers on the Escapist.

Conflicted...

I was interested in getting BF3, until now anyway. Fucking EA are pissing me off with this Pre-Order bonus shit. I will Pre-Order your game if you can guarantee I will enjoy the hell out of it.

That is just terrible across the boards, I usually skip out on preorders because of how dicey (get it) games can be, pedigree means nothing and I will be hot damned to waste money queing up for what turns out to be a trash game.

Game changing unlocks leads to the slippery slope of all sorts of bullshit. What is next 10 cent dlc that lets you call in attack dogs or the nuke in call of duty, or buying ranks ups?

Hell I think console games have major balls in taking the free to play model of selling you the extras and then Selling you a 80 dollar game with 30 dollar map packs on top of it all.

I am going to place my chips down that this stuff will get EA trolled by anon or lulsec given their recent history.
I agree completely, and I hope Anon or Lulsec do hack the shit out of EA, if anyone deserves it, I think it's them.

Just to let you know, it said in the original post, "if you Pre-Order the limited edition", which is about %20 more expensive I think, so we would be paying for something that should be in the core game anyway.

However if these are guns are in the core game in later levels as some people have said, then no harm done really.

Actually working for one of those company's in question. The customers aren't paying more for early access. There is a deposit but that comes right off the price when they buy it so they pay the normal price.
Brilliance.

I've always thought there is no reason not to pre-order a game you're really interested in. Often times publishers are happy to award interest. I don't see this as a bad thing, and I have no idea why people do. There is no extra charge to pre-order a game, and if you shop at a retailer that does charge extra than you shop at a really shitty retailer and should change in a hurry.

Damn the internet is chock full of stupid.

I don't get why balance is an issue... The army who spends more money on better weapons has an advantage, simple as.
Yes, because this is real war and not a game.

They give you the ability to get some extra firepower; yet, the people are complaining.

Does no one remember the pre-order bonuses for Bad Company 2?
You got a submachinegun, and a pistol. Don't seem, like game-changers, right? Wrong. The SMG was pretty great, not that good (Unless you fire exclusively from the hip (Like a wannabe mobster!), an equip magnum rounds. Then, all of a sudden, it becomes a weapon effective at SMG range, with SMG fire rate, and assault rifle damage, and an instant kill at shotgun range.), but the pistol? Two-hit kill, no fire cap, maximum accuracy. I wasn't around at that time, thank the Lord, but I still have to deal with it in it's nerfed state, which is still fast firing, relatively low recoil, seven shots, and great accuracy. Oh, and still two shots to kill. Yeah...

Arrest EA for arms trading.
Save the Skunks
Hug the Trees
Let Dogs Vote...

Anyway, I don't really see what the big deal here is anyway. I mean, its EA, you know that their gonna just release the stuff later on in the future as DLC anyway. Its not likely they keep their 'exclusive' unlocks exclusive. Isn't that right Mass Effect 2 Collector Edition Owners.

I completely fail to see the problem here. I understand that it might temporarily upset the multiplayer balance but I see no reason why players shouldn't be able to adapt their tactics to it. If it ends up being horrendeously overpowered, DICE should be able to tweak it with a patch. Simple as that.

Also, I don't see why people are complaining about pre-orders. They don't cost you anything extra, and I've never seen a retailer that does. You put $5 (or whatever) down now and that comes off the price of the game when you go to pick it up. And, if the game turns out to be ass, you can cancel your pre-order and put it on something else!

Seriously folks, even after reading the thread...what's the problem here?

What's worse is that DICE has been making online multiplayer shooters for years, so you'd think it would know how unbalancing this bonus would be.
DICE and EA have previous form on this though, a number of weapons for Battlefield 2 were only unlockable if you bought the the expansions. They included the L-96, MG-36 and G-36E, all of which were big upgrades over the normal BF2 unlocks. Funnily enough players turning up with these weapons led to a lot of friendly fire incidents fromplayers wanting to make use of them.

With any luck this upgrade will follow the same pattern as that one and be nullified after a couple of months, letting everyone get their grubby hands on the best guns.

I'm ok with early acess to multiplayer content like unlocking a weapon early as a thank you for pre-ordering or unlocking like a costume but holding out favored weapons is a nono in multiplayer games.
