Looks cool. Kinda wished they showed multiplayer instead but whatever. I hope they actually make the main character talk at all in game besides like 2 cutscenes, I dislike when these games make characters and give them some personality, but whenever action and stuff starts they become entirely mute. Also I wonder if women will be in the multiplayer.
I'm gonna wait on this one, after getting 3 on consoles, I feel I should wait and get a better computer for this one.

I wonder how heavily butchered this game will have to be to run on 6 year old hardware.
Rumor is it won't be running on six year old hardware at all...

Well, that was thoroughly underwhelming.

i) Lot's of scripted events in that, until they show off some unscripted destruction it doesn't count. CoD4 put us in a sinking ship, the sequence in the factory reminded me a lot of that.

ii) The Helicopter pilot was called Hawkins, does that mean they've brought back Colby Hawkins from 3 specifically to kill her off in the first level? Or is every female pilot in the US military related?

iii) If Dice's spiel about open ended means a return to Bad Company's massive open maps with an objective marker then that's interesting. If it's going to be a case of left corridor, right corridor then not so much.

iv) Where's Black?

v) Single bullet reloads, that annoys my inner old git.

vi) Post processing effects seem to have been turned down a touch, which is nice and consistent with the Aftermath/Endgame maps not being quite so lens flare-tastic.

vii) Why are EA so desperate to Call of Duty it up? They've failed three years on the bounce to make a CoD clone campaign (MoH, BF3, MoH:WF) and yet they seem to be persisting. Why is anyone going to buy it when they already bought Call of Duty?

viii) If Black's not there, where's Pres, Hags, Sweet and Sarge? I'd rather play that than this.

ix) What's up with the gore porn? Even with all it's stabbings BF3 is pretty bloodless, this a marked shift in content (if not tone). Does it mean there's going to be gibs? That would be a new one, not sure if it's ridiculous or disturbing yet, maybe both.

x) Pretty foreign sidekick, she's going to catch a bullet in a 'shocking' moment, I'm calling it now!

Battlefield 2 (a.k.a. "Modern Combat")
BF2: Modern Combat is an actual game, probably the best console Battlefield so far, even if hardly anyone bought it! It used some interesting mechanics that no other shooter since has played with, being able to swap between any friendly soldier on the map at will in campaign. Once you got the hang of it it really worked, why EA/Dice abandoned the concept so readily is beyond me.

We just want Bad Company 3 :(
So long as it isn't like BC2 I'm game for that. Bad company 1 was "You are cannon fodder. Survive and steal money." and your superiors just ran around trying to get you killed. BC2 was "You are elite soldiers because LOL"

This should have been Bad Company 3.
Hell if this was bad company 3. I assure you, I would care about these dudes losing their legs. Mind you, they would also never leave the combat zone (edit, via helicopter).

Well, I liked this reveal well enough, though I still liked the reveal mission in BF3 as well and most of the missions after that were crap tastic.

That said it definitely LOOKED more open in that section on the way to the factory, which would make me happy.

As far as models are concerned I wouldn't be surprised if most of those were placeholders. I am curious if they are going to really call back to the single player of BF3 and god I hope not. The worst part of BF3 campaign (other than the horrendous teases, amazing opening to a jet mission for on rails, ugh) was the contrived reasons for setting up these RU v US fight. What I liked about BC1 and BC2 is that it didn't even come, up and they focused on the characters.

I honestly can't find the difference to BF3 in this, but I guess that is the sort of thing their player base expects.
Not really, all the BF3 players I've talked to (especially in Teamspeak) have a big list of things they'd like to see changed, usually starting with the death of the rubbish campaign.

I think this is another case of EA's 'fund what works for other people, but paint it red' approach. If it is that, it's going to be like BF3's campaign, dull as dishwater.

As frustrated as many of you are with the content of the video, imagine my dismay when I spent 2+ hours on a big embargo'd event only to have the video be released online before I could even make it back to my hotel room to write it up.

I was pretty mother[redacted] [redacted] and wanted to [redacted] the [redacted]ing event planners right in their [redacted]ing faces.

Generic beyond belief, stop holding the players hand. Stick a marker on a large map and tell them to go that way by any means. Then be amazed how a player will adapt to get there the fastest the first time then on the second play through explore everything.

Note to publishers we have a brain like you too and most of the time it is engaged. This corridor based fireworkathon is dull and has been done hundreds of times. How about something other than 2000-2020?

OK, my thoughts as I watch the trailer.

First 5 minutes: Overly desaturated colours, obnoxious colour-grading, overtly scripted segments, linear set pieces, always fucking Russians!

Next 5 minutes: I have not really seen anything really that interesting.

14 minutes in-Initiating Rant: Quote-Fucking Civilians-End Quote: Why do soldiers in seemingly all (its a fucking hyperbole you dunce) U.S. media react negatively towards civilians (the ones they are supposed to protect and fight for), even the ones not of their native nationality? Personally it gives me the feeling that the soldiers are implying that unless you are a soldier you inferior to them.

It really may not be the intention but I have seen it in several games, novels, and movies and that is the only thing that I can infer from such reactions and statements. Instead why didn't he say something witty like "Why do Civillians always run the wrong direction when they hear gunfire and explosions?'

End Rant

After Watching The Rest: Total meh.
It's the same as how snowboarders always say "fucking skiers" and skiers always say "fucking snowboarders" when they get in each other's way on the hill. I bet civilians say "fucking soldiers". You're looking way too deep and getting frustrated over nothing.

Well that sucks.

But hey! You are at Pax East with (I assume) a press pass, that has to be pretty fun.

I thought this website was for people that like computer games. I'd agree that this is probably Dice and EA making the most out of the engine resources before the new console hardware drops and that it doesn't do anything particularly new. But how can you watch that and not be, even a little, impressed?

I do hope they scale up the MP battles abit though, what with games like Planetside 2 having huge persistent battlefields. I like sandbox games as much as the next gamer but does that mean linear, scripted experiences aren't allowed anymore?

I think there is a place for them still and this looks to be one of the best at doing that sort of thing.

They should just stop pumping time and money into campaigns trying in vain to compete with CoD's market space and focus on making an awesome multiplayer experience. BUT OH WELL

Not interested int he game play at all cause I've pretty much lost all urge to play FPS in general, even TF2. I must say though, run this on Ultra settings and it will be beautiful.
