I'd rather not derail the thread, but I've outlined my thoughts on the matter already [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/view-from-the-road/6759-A-View-From-the-Road-Unreasonably-Dedicated].
I completely agree with you there, with one exception: I think that PC gaming hasn't become less relevant. My opinion is that the relevancy of PC gaming remains unchanged from a decade ago, and that the general feeling that PC gaming has declined comes solely from the fact that console gaming has become more relevant than it was in the past.
But to be on-topic, this is nothing more than developer weenie-waggling in an attempt to win over the particularly butthurt members of the PC gaming community who feel that they're being given an "inadequate" experience for their choice of platform: which is laughable really, considering that they're essentially being handed the same experience as everyone else, and there's no golden rule of development that says one must cater to a specific crowd.
Can't really blame DICE though: a basic tenant of hawking shit/politics is that it's easy to win over someone disenchanted with a competitor's product: all you have to do is say that your product doesn't have the flaws that your competitor's does, and you're guaranteed a flood of support.
