Bayonetta anyone?

So with GoW3 pushed to the back of the shelf for a while im looking for a a strong action,beatumup, violent game. Bayonetta is a title that i've had in my hands like ten time but never bothered to buy or rent. I've heard unexpectedly good things about the game on sites and reviews, but wanted to know if any of the escapists clan has actually played it for a good amount of time and what they thought of it.

Is the combat as good as they say it is? Can I get a vague overview of the storyline without too many spoilers? I could care less about jiggle physics or sexual content(cough)...but seriously I'm just looking for a new solid action title. And yes my local movie rental store does not carry it. I was about to buy it used for $29 but alas i once again put it down.

It does kinda... But it depends whether you interpret the blatant sexual imagery as sexist, or just some silly fun.

I liked Bayonetta for the first 6 hours or so, but I'm really not really compelled to continue. It would help if the plot made a lick of sense.

Now I haven't played it, but from what I can tell the entire game is about the girl with legs like a strider having her clothes rip off and be covered by hair in some crazy transformation or something.

That and acid trip bosses.

If you can find a very cheap copy, I say go for it.

I found it to be an embarrassing game. The combat flows nicely and is incredibly responsive and the bossfights are decent but the overall story/feel of the game made me want to hide in shame.

If you can ignore the awful characters and the extreme play on sex I guess it can be an enjoyable game. I personally have not played a more embarrassing game in my life and I am actually a bit sad its even been made.

Yea see this was one of my main fears. I did'nt wanna be like.. oh man i'm such a loser for playing this perv garbage. But if it's done in a silly fun way and violence outweighs it i guess i'd be all in.

What are the weapons like?

Don't Play it seriously. If you play it seriously, you will have a god awful time. If you don't you will laugh and think that Bayonetta is incredible.

i've only played the demo but i liked it.

some really nice combo's although i didn't use them since buttonmashing like crazy works fine with this game.

i like the touch that you can equip any opponents weapon.

wouldn't know anything about the story, i don't think i'd care for the story anyway since it's a chick in a bodysuit with guns attached to her limbs...

Yes. It's fluid, satisfying, and very varied. Difficulty curve is good and many enemies will keep you on your toes.

I never said it was sexist, I just feel the game uses sexual themes and imagery far too much

Ok I won't argue with you on that. It gets pushed into the players face at every opportunity.

Awesome feedback. Tyvm. SO pretty much if you can look past the sex its a badass solid fast paced action game. The only "problem" being is that it's impossible to look past the sexuality...and the whack storyline, which is fine because she has guns attached to her body and at that point nothing really matters. So don't take it to seriously, laugh, mock it, and just tear shit up. Alrighty. So as of now i'm thinking it's a def buy next time i see it used or discounted. I just hope that hot girl at the video game store isn't working that day! >.<

The game treats you terribly. It forces you to master its dodge mechanic called witch time, you practically have to make your own health but it doesn't provide you with the ingredients, It pulls poorly timed QTE's right out its arse which are so unexpected they are guaranteed to kill you, cutscenes introducing bosses usually end with the boss using an attack which you have less than half a second to dodge when you return to gameplay, the combat is unsatisfyingly terrible, the story is piss on ice-cream, the characters totally unlikeable, Bayonetta is one of the ugliest game characters ever concieved in every possible way and it rates you at the end of every level, marking you down for being hit, using items and dying.......so yeah it's pretty shit......just wait for the new castlevania.

Eh, just imagine the words "Devil May Cry" and "Hooker Power", put them together and you have Bayonetta. The game is plenty fun for a beat-em-up, the story is indeed full of holes, but what good is a story to a game where the sole objective is to punch things in the face?

Its a (way too) tall BIG BOOBED gal with guns in hand and on her feet (!). Thats mostly it. She cartwheels and jumps around shooting in absolutely all directions...and if you do the correct tricks she will even spin around, land in a "suggestive" pose and you get a snapshotsound like from a camera. Oh yeah, she has a lollipop she sucks on suggestively in every scene she gets a close up.

This is completely over the top, and if it wasnt so terribly embarrassing it would actually be funny. And thats coming from one of the biggest male-schauvinists (spelling) around. If you watch an action-porn movie and switch out any actual genitalia with huge bossfights you got Bayonetta.

The game practically relies on sexual connotation and inuendo.
The battle mechanics are pretty smooth and the game at times is waaay unbalanced.
Story line, is alright.
Overall. It was decent, I wouldn't pay any more than the $29 for a used copy though.

Boners, sick action setpieces and massive combos. The only flaw is the story. I would buy it but they didn't port it correctly on the PS3 and it looks like someone poured sand in the blu-ray. If you like games like Devil May Cry and do not mind a bit (too much)sexism, you are in for a good ride.

Also, since DMC and Mrs B. have the same director, expect it to be hard and suitable for multiple playthroughs.
