be honest: does your girlfriend accept you as a gamer?

I don't have a girlfriend at the moment but all two of my previous girlfriends accepted it, one was a gamer and the other one whilst not so much of one really had a thing for geeks like me.

She thinks games are stupid. I don't play games when she's around. She knows I like them though.

I'm all for my boyfriends gaming addiction. In fact I'm starting to get a little obsessed myself.

My girlfriend doesn't understand my gamer-ness but she accepts it. My Sunday Left 4 Dead games are just part of dating me in her mind. She doesn't appreciate it when I get a new single player game and marathon it though.

The guys I have dated - I really didn't mind them playing games. It was usually me that made them so I could sit and watch (its a weird thing I do that I've always done, I absolutely love watching people play games). Usually with popcorn.

Wow, I spent so many lazy Sundays like that!

My boyfriend is quite okay with it. Considering that he is a bit of a gamer himself. Haha.

Mine was constantly asking me for Silent Hill tips so she can get all the endings, I'd already completed them way before I met her and she knows I'm a massive fan so she would literally force me to sit down and be her human walkthough guide, for all four games plus Homecoming and Origins (but not Shattered Memories because we don't have it yet).

It wasn't bad though, I'm a cruel git so I'd insist we only play at night with the lights off, she'll sit on the floor on a pillow (and another one clutched to her chest in case something scary pops out at her) and I'd sit behind her on the sofa. Then I'd brush her shoulder with something that felt weird like a bunch of bananas and laugh when she freaks out (every time, she knows it's me, but still... every time!)

Also, we've found that gaming is a good way to settle an argument where both of us won't back down (although only the stupid arguments like who does the dishes for that given week, who'll be walking the dog that day when it's raining and neither of us want to do it, which one of us gets priority over the remote, etc.).

Blazblue, Guilty Gear XX and Mortal Kombat (the original one) are good for this because we're equally matched. I personally can't wait for BB: Continuum Shift so we can thrash it out with new characters we haven't had any practice with.

Well, what with her being a devout Mass Effect fan, I'd say so, yes.

My boyfriend's an occasional gamer too, so he accepts it. But he's the first to point out when I spent WAY too long on a game.

Yeah, she does, as she's a gamer herself. I'm actually kinda envious of her sometimes because she can get into certain games easier than I can, namely Dragon Quest, Ratchet and Clank, and Harvest Moon.

Though it CAN be frustrating when she doesn't see the greatness I see in some of the games I play, namely Yakuza, Killer7, Dragon Age, etc...But I suspect she feels the same way about me and how I feel about the aforementioned games she plays.

But when we agree on games, it's phenomenal. Namely with Persona 3/4, Mass Effect, Zelda, Mario, Heavy Rain, and many many others.

Yep, she does. Has done so for the past 6 years. As long as I don't neglect her, she's fine with me gaming, just as I'm fine with her watching Desperate Housewives a few meters away from me while I'm rolling my Zerg swarm over some unlucky Terran kid. Heck, in the last few years, she occasionally chases me off the computer so she can go play Plants VS Zombies, Peggle or Puzzle Quest (or whatever other casual game she's into).

From what I can gather, she was a gamer herself as a kid, playing the first Civilization, Prince of Persia, Worms and a whole selection of old-school PC games, but she drifted away from it later on. In fact, every time I hint at getting a PS3 some day, she looks just a little too happy about it. I'm afraid that one day soon I'll finish college, get a job, buy that PS3 and then come home from work only to find her ripping the guts out of some mythical creature in God of War 3...
