"The game is being built on the "Infinity Advanced" engine based on the last Throne of Bhaal build, meaning that all the enhancements from that game will be included in this one."

So it's basically a Trillogy mod/Tutu with a few new characters I can buy?

Not quite the groundbreaking revelation I was hoping for.

Please port to steam, please port to steam, please port to steam. New characters? I already have trouble deciding from the current ones!

I'll consider myself lucky I was broke when GoG had the Baulders Gate games on sale a few weeks back. and as I doubt I'll get my original disks to still run this makes me happy. BG3 would have been beter but this still makes me happy as long as they aren't releases with a new game $60 price tag

This is the epitome of a no-win situation: half are thrilled because they're not changing too much, half are disappointed because they're not changing enough.
How is it a no-win situation if half the people are winning? :S

Seems more like a zero-sum situation.

What would be great in an enhanced edition:

- Support for current resolutions
- HD Textures
- Zooming
- VA for the lines the original actors didn't voice (unrealistic, I know)
- Revamped UI, VFX
- Was gonna say 3.5ed rules but that's already out so...
- Integrate Gaider's combat tweaks for ToB and have them toggleable from options menu.

I would say 3D would be nice too, but that a) runs the risk of taking away from the game instead of adding, and b) is already being done [http://www.gamersnexus.net/bgr-home/].

Surely they must release this with Steam! Just think how long it will stay as a best-seller and attract even more people :D

Exactly, if they release it on Steam, I will buy it, and I never played BG 1 or 2.

If it will land on Steam then it is a must buy for me. Also I wonder if they will update BG1 with BG2's classes and races like Sorcerer.

Okay, they've sold me. They clearly understand why these games are as amazing as they are. And a Steam release would seal the deal.

To all of you it's not coming to steam since Beamdog is a Digital Distribution Service as well as the people working on the enhanced editions. Just like Valve only releases their games on Steam since they own it.
EDIT: Ok never mind they have said they are thinking about it.

Well as long as they dont keep in all of the game breaking additions they made in the later games. Things like getting xp from learning spells and picking locks made it far to easy to level when you had BGtutu or trilogy installed. Hell with BG trilogy you could accidently be like level six or seven before you even reached the friendly arm inn. Then again if they nerf/eliminate the xp gain and beef up the power of all of the enemies it just could work.

I have been wanting to replay BG1 again for awhile now but I hate how much both BGtutu and BG trilogy destroy any semblance of balance and difficulty.

It doesn't sound like they're changing anything at all to be honest.

Quite disappointing.

All I want is for the first game to be much easier so I don't have a character die every 10 seconds in it.
Dont worry that stops happening as soon as you figure out how the game works. Then after that the only time you die is during the final boss fight and that is every two seconds not ten.
I extensively played BG2 so I know it all works, I just couldn't deal with characters with 4-10hp where any hit by any enemy could just kill a party member.

I'm closer to the former than the latter. The inclusion of new material is pretty exciting, although I can't imagine giving up my party just to try new guys, and I'm thrilled that the music, isometric 2D graphics and voice files are remaining untouched. Oster did suggest that the interface might be modified or tweaked somehow, although I'm not sure if that's set in stone.

In other words, this really sounds like the real deal. Not sure if I'll go for it, but I'm definitely paying attention.
I'm also guessing the first half are the ones that played original games on or at least near their release dates, while the second part are people who only tried it in recent years/only heard the game mentioned in every cRPG discussion.

As a proud member of the first group I'm happy with the current plan for BGEE, even tho I know I can play BG1 in BG2 engine with all the bells and whistles that come with it, a proper, up to date, quality remake with new content is something I'm willing to spend money for. Secretly hoping that if this works out, maybe one day we will see Planescape and IWD remakes as well.

So they're charging for what mods already do for free? Sure some authentic bioware additions are nice but...seriously that's the only note worthy thing.

It does state in the article that, "the studio is "putting some thought into" a Steam release as well, and while it's currently a PC exclusive, Oster hinted that other platforms could be announced next week." So it's still on the table. It might not be a day one steam release, but I would imagine it will eventually make it's way over there. The mentioning of "other platforms" also indicates that it can't only be their own delivery service at work here. We'll definitely have to wait and see though.

He said on his twitter it was going to be a Beamdog exclusive several times. He mentioned the other platforms comment when someone was asking him about if it was going to be on Mac. He has now said they are putting some thought into it but he was constantly saying it's going to be Beamdog exclusive.

Yeah me too. I played erm tried Baldurs Gate one . . .but it felt extreamly outdated and then i remember i was in this big ass town and i went to a tavern and after a fight inside i lost 1 of my support characters so i got pissed and i never loaded the game again. And that was many many years ago. But a enchanced edition with better graphics and new content is a sure try for me not to mention it will properly work on new PCs now. I remember buying the top-down RPG Robin Hood which is an amazing game and it doesnt work on new generation PCs. So these re-doings of old classics are welcomed with open arms by me :)

Valve and Blizzard release their own games on their own platforms because they are THAT good and can afford to do it. Blizz has the money from WoW and Steam is a dominant market for digital sales so it doesnt make sense for Valve to seek new distribution when they own the distribution :D If steam was sharing the market with 2 others and had almost equal share of it you can bet Valve would release their games on other services too.

To those who haven't played it before... I envy you. You get the thrill of playing a genuinely great RPG for the first time. I remember installing BG2 for the first time and hearing that dramatic intro music, feeling my skin go all tingly as the drums and trumpets blared out while I made the character. Great stuff.
Oooo. Now I'm getting all excited. Yeah always wondered what the fuss was all about, if the revamp is legit, I'll finally get to find out
